Used to hunt in there. Lived out the back of Maungamuka, at Otangaroa (between Maungamuka and Kaeo, Turn off SH1 at the Maungamuka Marae) I see the Takahue Saddle is still listed as a 4wd track too, but locals at Broadwood told me its been closed for ages due to a slip, dont suppose youve been there for a nosy? Used to drove cattle over the saddle, many moons ago.
Bugger im there tomorrow (i test the telecom Fire Alarm system at Broadwood once a month), was going to take a detour up there and have a nosey, well as far as i can get in a L300 van thought about taking the Fez or Paj up one month and seeing whats what. might have a bit of and ask around and if theres any update.

ye went up there last year is a good track but you can only go as far as the river at the end as there is farmers land beyond there. some nice sized ruts up there and a few bits we had to pull people up.it was a shiney trip up there. been out otangaroa on a few farms, is a really wet place when it wants to be:)

We used to manage [what used to be]the Otangaroa Station when i was a lad. I thing its all pines now. I never go out that way when i come up, place doesnt hold to many fond memories. Hook a left at the pub and hit Kohukohu to see whanau instead, much more fun to be had there. Try to get up there twice a year.
Now now, Ineil, Im sure there has just been a misunderstanding of terminology, possibly due to the way my comment was structured. Lets just move along now. Tu's, ive never been so affronted in all my life!!! Culturally insensitive indeed!
