26mhz is the old CB which alot of trucks still use, its also like listening to AM radio (shit am i that old). 477Mhz is the new one which is known as PRS. Alot of clubs use PRS for there radios. You can get a Uniden 095 i think which does both CB (26) and PRS (477)

Just buy a 477Mhz PRS unless you've still got mates still using the old 26mhz CB stuff, PRS is the most common set to use now

GME are a good brand as well, these seem cheap.

I looked at that and it has a host of extra features that wouldn't be used, if you want a uniden go for a uh012 or uh015, they were doing buy a 5w and get a handheld free, repco can get em, dick smith don't really seem to do them anymore.

I've got the uniden 095sx, wasnt that long ago i brought it either. Does AM and UHF (PRS) as well as programmable receive only frequencies. Excellent unit seems to have good range and signal. Only gripe I have is that you can only program UHF channels so you can only listen to some police. IE. cant pick up the police vhf, fire or ambulance as they all use VHF. And it was $50 cheaper than the smaller UHF/Scanner unit.
But then i'm a truckie is the only reason i wanted AM as well

Heres the new GME UHF (477mhz) PRS that just arrived today, was from an Aussie Seller in TM,

First Impressions: has a good mounting cradle which gives you more mounting options, similar build quality to the unidens, made in aussie (the aussies would moan if they were crap...they moan about everything else...and the poms too), handheld is 2w and came with AA rechargables and a wall charger. Price was comparable if not better than the UH-012 I had previously. would have got another one but dse, ripco etc were useless and could not tell me they stocked them, all they seem to stock are those nasty and useless 0.0001w ones.

Dick Smith are running out all their 5w PRS and CB Radio's, they aren't getting any new stock in, this also applies to aeirals etc. they are selling the stock they have them at the moment on special. if you haggle with them they will do it cheaper.

looks like they are selling the crappy 0.00001w handhelds from now on...
