L200 gearbox

Post by mudbugga »

My gearbox shat itself rather well. Smashed up countershaft and gears on main shaft. :x
So I'm in need of a good box.
Does anyone know if a V5MT1 box out of a pajero will fit?
The motors are the same 2.5d/t.
Other than that does anyone have a box to suit?

Got a rebuilt box. Cost an arm and a leg but cheaper than rebuilding the old one.
Going to give it a work out on Friday when I go hunting.
The Wynns rep gave me some additive to go in the box that he recommended. Worth a crack anyway.
Cross my fingers this box lasts a while.

It had noisy bearings when I bought it. The countershaft bearings get noisy and then collapse causing gear damage. The gearboxes on these trucks are quite weak. They are ok on non-turbo but they can't handle the extra grunt with the turb. Bad design really.
I had just organised new bearings and it shat the box before I could do them. Bummer!
I got the recond box from 4wd commercial partsworld in Hamilton.
Exchange deal $1250+gst with 6mth/20000km warranty.
I had been quoted $1450+ from a wrecker here in chch for a box that had just been removed from a truck and no warranty on it.
So I think it wasn't too bad a deal.
