Fitting airhorns to L200

Post by mudbugga »

Hey guys. I'm trying to hook up some airhorns on my truck.
I was trying to use a relay, but the horn is earthed up in the steering wheel pad. (There is an earth and a constant 12v at the horn). I gave up trying to fit the relay and have just used the terminals to the horn and put them straight onto the airhorn compressor. Hopefully the currant draw for the compressor won't be too much for the std system.
What is the best way of connecting airhorns up using a relay?

Can be done with a relay, when I did my engine swap a couple of years ago the air horns stopped working and I had to rewire the relay, cant remember what I did other than trace out the old horn feed and re-wire it onto the relay :?:

have transferred air horns thru about 5 or 6 different cars now and everytime, all I've done is use the existing horn wiring and bolt the compressor close to the original horn location so that everything reaches.

have never ever had a earth problem or the need for a relay so far

Substitute the headlight wiring etc for the horn wiring.
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

why not just use the earth to activate the relay?
Instead of earthing the relay to body use the orginal horn switch to earth and activate the relay.
