hey, my names dave and i live in pukekohe (auck)
i was actually after a cheap van but i saw this on trademe
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Toyota/photos/a-188203716/p-80735109.htm
and thought it was pretty cool. the guy said reserve is $1500, so its pretty cheap. i dont really want to spend more than 2k
can anyone tell me what i have to look out for when i go and inspect it.
would the 2 litre engine be alright for offroading? and is a surf good for a beginner?
cheers,
dave

also ill need it for a daily driver, are these models reliable? ive been told that the mud tyres will wear out quite quickly on the road, so was thinking of getting a 2nd set of wheels with road tyres on them. what are your thoughts?
i have also just seen this
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Toyota/photos/a-188538610/p-80870132.htm
is there much difference between a hilux and a surf, other than body?
the lpg would be a bonus since its cheap to run, but does it still perform offroad?

Re: new member, is this alright for a beginner?
that hilux would be the better of the two for someone that uses it as a daily in my opinion, also that way you can build it as you learn how to use it.
toymota thats stock standard.

why is that? because of the tyres? do they have pretty much the same capabilities offroad?
can you get canopys for the double cab hiluxs?
Re: new member, is this alright for a beginner?
yes you can get cano for them , why the others want you to get a truck with a leaky engine, not sure

I would go for double cab also. has beam axel front suspention rather than inderpendant like the surf - work beter off road and and are easyer and cheaper to mod and work on.

is that water leak a common problem? easy to fix?
Re: new member, is this alright for a beginner?
If it was a Landrover they come out of the factory standard with leaks
but honestly you it would be an easy fix or just put a supra engine in there and then later on you can run big tyres
the toymoter boys will be able to give you better options and ways of doing any conversions
