what do you prefer and why
personally i tend to lean towards a rollbar but the main disadvantage is they do get in the way if you have 2 rows of seats

exo wont protect shit if you have a hard roll. The only thing you want an exo for is if you are only going slow and rolling softly. For everything else its internal all the way.

Pluses and Minuses for both, depends what you do as to what is more suitable., you just have to look at Hosehustlers and Rokhounds trucks after last weekend to see.

half n half if its possible. Ive got exo front half, "internal" back half. Exo front saved windscreen a heap of times from flops, rolls, trees, banks, branches.....

Have to disagree with you tu's . I have a half in half much like rex's .
After throwing it of the bank and bouncing it down the hill I still have a windscreen
everything from the a pillar back was fine .
I say go half exo .

I do agree with you in that case Chris (and you rexo) but in the case of a full exo (no half option given) an internal will be much stronger. And yeah the half exos do look cool. I thought about making a half exo when I still was driving the range rover (cause id seen pics of them on RRs on the net, and liked it), but then the range rover got tired

Full exo saves sheet metal and glass (obviously). But you still need to diagonal brace it back to chassis rails. I was able to look under mine for the first time today, and found that one of the bolts that hold the angle brace on had gone. The brace is wickedly twisted out of shape, and had that bolt been there, the damage would have been a lot less.
So ultimately, as Rex and Chris have already stated, I reckon you need 1/2 in 1/2

Yes I have to agree that it is easier to do in a soft top or chopped up vehicle and mine is not road legal .
With a little bit more work that an internal cage I have seen pic's of the rear brace coming down through the roof , few rangies done like that . In a daily driver yoou probably do not want to cut a hole in the roof

I'll be going with a removable exo eventually, I want it to save me and the family, and unfortunately in a 5 door with kids etc and internal won't work.

hi silly question but what does a 1/2 and 1/2 look like as i am nearly at that stage with my P I T A at the moment but have removeable cab and fold down wind screen would it work ?
it will look something like this

the bodies are now in one piece and will have snorkle on drivers side if that makes any differance

you will get away with having a full exo cage because you can run diagonals back to the chassis. A 1/2 in 1/2 out cage is where there is the main hoop inside the body, and the front hoop is external.
some people run big cages around their their full bodys and cant put diagonals in (without surgery) and while they will protect it in a soft flop, they would not survive a hard roll without damage.

Anyway, I've got a rollbar on my tray I'll probably end up making an exo for the front half, mainly because i don't have another option plus it will assist in protecting my panel work form those trees and banks that jump out of no where
i was looking at something similar to this hilux, did it do the trick skid?

as far as I'm aware the exo has been strong as, on that truk, the only issue that I have seen is the problem with the drivers foot and the large amounts of PSI running through the supercharger.
he may have had small dents from time to time but the main issue he seems to get at every event is the grill and indicators getting smashed, but if ya avoided trees and slowed down, then you may come out of an event squeaky clean.
As a note of interest, the 2 pipes coming out of the front guards that go on to form part of the exo, are also acting as snorkels with a filter behind the row of lights on the roof (I think theres a filter)

thanks skid ,turoa and nzhunter thought thats what they would look like in skids photo been thinking that way just trying to work out in my head was am going to incorperate into the side rails that are going on before i bend the panel work scratch's don't count they still make paint!
yes is a jeep was cut down to a single cab with tray on back but now have the two pieces joined up so no gap hopefully body back on next week yaaaa
