Diff lock

Post by wjw »

Hey guys,

Got a question for ya.... Yesterday my boss got stuck in the snow in my truck :( and I got very cold helping to dig/pull him out... so.... to stop it happening again I could do with dif locks on the front and rear diffs....

Any ideas on how I should procede/how much it'll cost... this is for a 1986 Nissan 720 Double Cab....

Thanks,

Billios....

I got one of those too, shes the work truck. I recomend that you stay away from anything other that tar seal with the Datto and buy a Surf

Hmm talking about that I've got a mate in Queenstown whos been trying to sell me his for years ;)

Oh and I'm working on getting another play vehicle, is a bit difficult as I'm not actually earning any money at the moment.

Also this truck IS my work truck... problem is I work in snow alot.... spent 5 days at the snow farm in the last two weeks.... so work vehicle needs to be very capable.....

Cheap fix.... buy a set of chains!

For a set of ARB lockers, your looking around $1600 an end + labour (no worrenty unless they are installed by service agent) now the catch is.... if there is any wear in the diff head carrier & pinon bearings they are going to want to replace them and the seals, budget on $2500 an end for everything oh and another $500 for the compressor

Hmmm $5500 or a set of chains $500 ..... hard decision :?

Maybe that merc isn't such a bad idea

I wasn't aware that Arb made lockers to fit Datto 720s. Don't be in too much of a hurry to buy another truck if you like that Datto, maybe a beam axle in the front would help? I quite like my old Datto it reliable, gutless (only a work hack though) reasonably cheap to run and never says die. Has a shit load of rust though :D

What about auto lockers? They are a lot cheaper than the Air lockers, of course you dont get to turn them off and on as u please, and on road when you try and to a tight lil turn things can get a bit strange and jumpy.

Ihave one in the rear of my landcruiser, im not sure what they go like in the front.

720 Diffs

Hi there just brousing and thought I might add some info, I know the front diff in the 720 are the same as 280z, hr 30 skyline (1980 ish). Maybe a slippery (lsd) centre from one of these could fix the front end?.

Might have to look into that for the work hack. I've had the bloody thing stuck in a flat paddock with nothing but a light due on the ground!!
