 I was actually joking - that stuff will be hard pressed to bend in that application, even with the weight of the truck on it... and those heims should be well strong enough for steering on a 'Lux...

My thoughts anyway...

I think the heims are for the 4 link :)

Heh, thought that might get a few bites!. The tube is 10mm wall thickness roughly and will take 30odd tons to start to yield, the weakest part is the rod end which starts to yield at 12 tons, bear in mind these figures are with a factor of safety of 1.5, which means in real life it will take more to make it yield. Dont forget all these arms do is locate the diff, the uppers are mostly in compression which is even stronger. The bottom arms will take the whole weight of the truck many times over before being affected. Check out all the machines on Pirate, Marlin and Outer limits, plenty of hard work goes into them with 3/4 heims with no ill affects. I'd rather replace a 20 dollar rodend than make or fix an arm.
Lets see what sort of replies that generates

looks like none at all... you have to learn not to put all the facts in one post... you scare off the nay-sayers!

Just bolt the bloody thing together would you? I wanna see it roll :)

Why-oh-why-oh-why a lexus tho? The 7M will do everything your lexus will do, it will sound better, it will weigh less, and it has cool appeal cos its not the same motor used by every single boy racer and bogan from one end of the country to the other...

If you wanted something with more ponies a 2JZ-TE would have been a cooooool option. Although bang for buck, they are fookin pricey! I'd like to put one in the wifes Altezza (along with a SAS and a set of Simexes :P) but not till the 1G blows up.

I cant say for sure teh Lexus will go in, I expect that when I finally get it going I wont wnt to be ripping the 7m out in a great hurry!. The lexus was more of an impulse buy coz it comes with loom, ecu, afm etc, so I just bought it. It might sit in the shed until the Rav4 project is under way

are you going coil front or what?

Yer mate coils all round

Some more progress

Post by Jafa »

Finally got my Hi-Steer arms and IFS adapter finished today, it had been so long since I had worked on them, they'd gone rusty  :?
They are a design based on ones from the states. A mate of mine got some when he was over there on business, but the doofus got LH drive ones   so before he sent them back for a refund I copied them and drew them up in Solidworks and mirrored them for RH drive   The ifs adapter is just to go betweem the draglink I'm gonna make and the ifs balljoint on the pitman arm. Hi steers are made out of 4130 and machined up on our CNC. So good to have the right kit!

Yer they are 1 piece, cost for material wasnt much more for enough to do them in one bit. Pain in the ass to setup in the lathe tho

OMG, its been six months since I did anything constructive on this, so its past time to get off my fat ass and get going on it!!

SO...here was this weekends effort. Made spring platforms and retainer plates, made shock mounts on diff, shock mounts and x-member on chassis, turned up spacers for rodends, lightened by grossly overweight hubs, cut 300mm or so off the chassis rails, and did a test assembly. Gettin some bits lasercut for the upper spring platforms and will turn up some bits for dropouts.

Heres some pics
