Club Class Winch Challenges
Club Class Winch Challenges
Hi All ,I have been talking to a couple of fellow organisers of Winch challenges Re the existing rule regarding current competitors not being allowed to drive ,I think to make it simpler for everbody as we are trying to enclude not exclude people how do you feel about a rule that says any current competing winch challenge truck in the challenge class cannot enter a club class comp , but club class is open to all driver/co drivers .i:e a team currently competing in challenge class can compete in club class in a new truck ,and this would also allow a inexperenced driver/ co driver the option of having a guideing hand along side them .Your thoughts on this would be appreciated as we have a winch challenge meeting on Wed to set the final rules for Norwest.Cheers..Steve
Re: Club Class Winch Challenges
I totally agree as the whole thing is about participation and promotion of the sport and if teams enter in their club trucks and successfully compete against challenge team it may prove its more about the team work rather than the truck

Re: Club Class Winch Challenges
I think it would indeed provide "novice" competitors with a yard stick to measure their driving skills with the "pros".
The condition should be that the pro competitors don't enter a truck that is almost a replica of their competition truck i.e. moded to the hilt and being "tested" in an easier competition before being introduced into the proper winch challenges.
Keep the trucks relatively simple and let it be about the "experience" and driving skills.

Re: Club Class Winch Challenges
personaly i dont care who is entered, i just like getting out there and doing it and having a heap of fun with like minded people
obviously it would be nice to have a chance at the title, and not be competing against guys that are there to test a new vehicle and will probably win... but im sure that the event holder could make the playing field even somehow ie: give them a few penalties on every stage
looking forward to the next one
... tho i do need a winch man now

Hi TJ ,Hopefully that wont happen ,At 4x4 challenges and at Norwest we are lucky enough to have a team of people who are committed to making the club class work ,and in the end its up to the organising club as to if they accept or decline an entry form

Re: Club Class Winch Challenges
I agree the whole thing is about participation and promotion of the sport. Therefore we shouldn't exclude anyone. The only restriction I think we should have, apart from no currently competing trucks, is a current driver/navi combination can't compete. This means a current driver can drive with a different navi, a current navi can navi for someone else or an extisting combination can swap seats giving the navi a chance to yell at the driver for a change.
Re: Club Class Winch Challenges
Hi,One of the problems i have putting conditions on teams is a few of the teams out there already swap co drivers /drivers nearly every comp now also if we allowed driver/co driver to just swap seats in their current comp truck not alot would change as its not unknown for teams to swap seats during comps now. What would we do if a driving co driver got injuried and could not contnue driving, pull the team from the comp or allow the trucks normal driver who was navi to now drive? i know that this is unlikely to happen but we have to think about these things. As an organiser it may seem selfish but it makes everbodys life easier the less conditions we have on competitors thats one of the reasons to allow existing teams to compete in a new truck .If a existing team was to turn up in a full on comp spec truck expecting to race and blow everyone away they will be very dissapointed as this is not what the club class is about or needs..Steve
Re: Club Class Winch Challenges
I like the idea of allowing current challenge class competitors to race but mybe just don't let drivers be the designated driver? Then they can be in the truck but can only driver if needed to complete the comp.
An example would be if I didn't have my truck going and we used John's Disco. 2.5TDi and a lowmount winch. So he drives and I run (OK maybe walk). Apart from experience there wouldn't really be any undue advantage and having experienced guys competing at that level surely is a good thing?
Like we have done with a couple of things there needs to be a statement about the spirit of the competition that allows the event director to make desicions at their descretion. At the end of the day it is about being fair and that isn't something that can be totally achieved with a hard and fast rule. It is about being involved and having fun.

I would be dead keen to drop the age restriction. My son has been my winchman for years and he would love to compete, but up to this point we have been unable to due to his age. Would the both driver and navi being licenced drivers rule be relaxed for the clubman class?

sweet as i set my truck up for winchchallenging but due to budget constraints (baby on the way) and the fact that there are no comps close I chose the 37's over comp legal rubber.
If there's ever a comp close im sure I could find some 35's

Re: Club Class Winch Challenges
The rule is 36.5" and some 37's fi this rule. Also it is up for discussion over the next year so have your say!

Competition is planned for Taupo in October next year. You'll need to do some other before due to what is being planned but that isn't to far away from you!!!

As Darin said ,as long as the tyre measures at 36.5 x 13.5 or under at 30psi i really dont care what size is written on the side wall...Steve
