I used to take it to the Litchfield testing station to. The black guy there used to love driving me truck, even though it was only a a few meters. I should take it back there just for a laugh. Thanks for your advise and thoughts Pete but I will stay with the places that best suit my needs thanks.

I'd do the same Pete. It's good taking your mode of transport to the same place for wof. I guess I only get Rick to do it coz i like to support someone who owns his own business. I'm shares in a business myself and I know who hard things can get. But I understand Pete. :D

A couple more mods on the go today thanks to Rick n Tim.

Since I've had the fuel tank replaced I've never had the fuel gauge in cab working correctly as the sender is part of the fuel pump. So now the send inside the fuel pump has been disconnect and the original Landcruiser one has been installed into the tank. Problem solved. That was a pain not knowing when your fuel was going to run out.

Now. As far as the rear disc brake conversion goes.
We found out that without modifying the Subaru calipers (which may weaken them) they won't suit the job as to get it legal the disc pads has to have 100% contact with the rotors. So we went with Toyota MR2 Turbo calipers. They fit perfectly without modifying anything. We're using new Toyota 70 Series rotors.
The adapter plate I got off Nib is the only thing that will have to be modified slightly. SWEET!
As far as the handbrake goes. I was never happy the the original cable system. It sucked. So to make the system work even better (which wouldn't take much) we're going to use the cables that come with the MR2 calipers. They run seperate cables up to the handbrake, one off each wheel. The handbrake end of the cable may need modifying but we aren't at that stage yet.
It's all going along pretty well so far.

I had the petrol tank bash plate back from the powder coaters today. It should of been plastic coated as the powder coat will chip easy. Oh well. Looks good for now.

Oh and here's the new horn.

really cool you have the bling to throw at the 40, but have you turned a spanner at it? saw a few pages ago (amongst the 30 or so about your 40) you got someone to do your lifted springs? I know its not your forte" but you thought about throwing some coin into doing some shit yourself?

I hear ya. And I would understand people being a little annoyed i don't do more work towards my projects. That's cool.
Mate, I used to pull down cars and put em together. I did years of it.. I attempt some things now. But now I can afford it, I prefer to get someone else i trust to do it, and get it done once and done right. I like to know what's going on and have some input to the project. At Ricks i can do that. He puts up with me coming in everyday and asking lots of questions. He's a good bloke to have working on your truck.

I have a Later model Holden that's had more work and money spent on it than this 40. I prefer to have someone who knows what they are doing work on my vehicles. I know a little about mechanics but not as much as the people I pay good money to work on them. It's money well spent as far as I'm concerned.

Well look here bud; I for one don't know why you are getting into Jerry for that picture. It was me who posted it and currently is the only one I have of my "under side of the bonnet". There are 2 small horns and 2 large horns, a similar setup to that of yours.

Go blow your horn some where else.
Sure mine may be a rough and ready instillation, its only a temporary job until I have the time and space to do it properly, myself. I don't have wads of money to throw at my truck like you, so please keep your snide remarks about my poor wee lights etc to yourself.
I have to do 90% of the work on it in a driveway as I have no shed to work in, but that is changing soon, the monster is growing!
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

Relax mate. It's all tongue and cheek.
It was Jerry that posted, "they are only baby horns", not you.
I didn't look at who posted the pic of the truck with the horns. I assumed it was Jerry showing us his adult horns. But now I see it was you. My bad.

Hey if I want to show off what I've had done to my truck, I will. This is my thread. No one is asking you to read it.

Good on you for working as hard as you are with limited funds and space. I admire that.
I used to do the same and know just how hard it can get. It's more satisfying than throwing money at it. I understand that to.

The adapter plates for the rear brake calipers are ready to be installed. Just to more holes to be drilled then on they go.
All things going well, it should be all go tomorrow night.
The original 40 hand break lever will be removed and replaced with the MR2's hand brake lever. Keeping it real simple.

Really enjoying the disc conversion to your truck Pete, both from a hands on, and doing similar to mine.
I think you may start a new trend, it's going to be moving away from Subaru or Mitsi callipers and into Toyota setups, several reasons for that which you've already stated....... thats my predictition anyway.
Was in today working on my rear diff, I'll be there tomorrow afternoon spinning spanners on yours

Re, "I think you've started a new trend". All I wanted was legal disc brakes on the rear of the 40. Full credit to Rick and maybe his new trend. It's his idea to use MR2 calipers on the 40. Oh and Corey for nutting out the laser cut spacers he designed. I got the easy part. Well, maybe hard part, paying for it. :D

Looking forward to you guys working on it tomorrow.

Cheers fellas.

The guys came across a couple of problems today fitting the new brakes.
First.
The original adapter plate nib gave me isn't going to do the job bugger it. The tabs that the calipers are to bolt to aren't big enough. They bolted it together just to see how it looked and this was the result.

Image
Image
Image

As you can see there isn't enough meat for the calipers to hang off. So new adapter plates are being made up. Also they found the spacer plates weren't thick enough centering the caliper to the disc. So those will be re made also.
Second
The MR2 hand brake lever won't suit. I thought it sounded to good to be true.

Ah well, ya get this when you're trying to match everything up.

I'll let you know how things get on in the near future (of course). :D
