is it worth flushing an engine ?

just got another 4d56-t as mines abit dodgy, just wondering if anyone recommends while i have it out should i flush it somehow drop the sump and clean it down with diesel ? thought i should check first before i do anything silly or not worth while... also whats a good engine flush product? ive heard people using diesel ? also heard the horrid story's of people using engine flush and lossens up junk and throws it on a big end :? any input would be great, thanks

I use atf every couple of oil changes. I just drain out half a liter of oil then top it up with atf and let the engine idle for a couple of minutes then drain it, works perfectly and is cheap. The engine flushes in a can are very good at cleaning the built up crap in engines, but they can clean to much by removing the carbon build up that helps seal the engine.
