Mike, you still taking a trailer down?

Reason I ask is that if you can squeeze your tyres into the back of your wagon for the ferry trip, I can try to organise a work trailer for you to take down to save you a few $$$$ on the ferry.Could probably even meet you in Picton depending on arrival time.....

No I dont think I will be taking a trailer anymore for that exact reason....the ferry. It wasnt actually the cost of getting it across (which would have been free) but cant gaurantee that the tires would still be on there waiting for me when i come to pick it up.(would have to send trailer over few days before). If I squeeze them in the back then they will stay in there all the way down

Cheers for the offer though dave.

12 Vehicles... so do we all have offroadexpress.co.nz stickers on board? :P (I don't, btw :? )

a little advertising would not go astray, methinks... assuming we're not all gonna get out there and do stupid stuff of course... which of course we won't... unless Rik comes and says, "Hey Steve... drive up that really steep bank over there... go on, do it" :P

Tim,
what is everyone driving? (so I can put names to trucks).

Well I guess at least there will be at least 2 Hippo's to be dragged from the mud holes so I won't feel too lonely

Hopefully there will be some rain down there, can't have dry mudholes  As for the stickers, a few of us do have them, reckon about 6/7 will have them on. This time next week, gut full of beer on board and looking forward to a days 4wheeling.

Dave

Al has listed most, there are one or two others, you won't have too much trouble spotting our group, all vehicles are modifed to some extent, (some extremely 8) )

13 trucks is getting up there. Would it be almost worth running two groups so we aint waiting so long at holes and obstacles. Front trucks wont get to see the majority of vehicles going through obstacles and vice versa etc. I really do hate waiting. Maybe we split into heavily modified and more standard trucks. Worth a thought

I am not going to split into two groups unless you pussies want to take the easy road  . Most trucks are modified so there shouldn't be too many stuck trucks. There will only be 13 trucks on one day, if everyone looks out for each other there shouldn't be too many problems. Who will lead this second group anyway :?: . The group will stay together for the combined use of recovery gear and skills end of story :!: !3 trucks is easy to manage, if I can sort a bunch of women and doctors at the hospital, I can manage 13 trucks.

Half the people going are pretty quick at recoveries, by the time you realise your stuck they usually have a rope out ready... and two groups up there would be a pain as generally there is only one way through...

anyway, the 'Ground Anchor' now moves under its own steam, just need to service the starter motor... wooohooo.. going for WOF tomorrow which is the only worry as it ran out last week... doh! (guys doing engine swap didnt have time to do it :()

My Bro will be the first to arrive on Monday :)

We normally do anyway

albundy wrote:  . Most trucks are modified so there shouldn't be too many stuck trucks.

but not all, Its no fun watching the same truck get stuck every single time. unless its U571 of course.

albundy wrote: Who will lead this second group anyway :?:

There are a few which spring to mind. I'm sure they dont drive highly modified vehicles for nothing.
albundy wrote: The group will stay together for the combined use of recovery gear and skills end of story :!:
Your truck alone has enough recovery gear to raise the titanic but good to see suggestions and ideas handled in a positive and democratic way
albundy wrote: 13 trucks is easy to manage, if I can sort a bunch of women and doctors at the hospital, I can manage 13 trucks
I would start small, managing one truck successfully across a river should be enough of a challenge

Probably none of us. Exploring is half the fun of 4wding anyway, till it starts snowing and the LR's heater cuts out completely.

If I wanted to be shot down I would be flying at the warbirds not watching them

BTW was good to beat you at pool again 8)

Yep your on to it Matt. I made one this morning out of an old tarp. Been thinking about which way to go down. Am leaning towards heading down to the Waitaki, turn inland just south of it towards Duntroon and go over Dansey's Pass. We could stop for a beer, great old pub. From there we go to hwy 85, turn right on to it and that will take us to Alex, from there it is a straight run down to Ettrick. Will only save about 30km's, but there will only be one mountain pass to go over instead of two, no three if you include the part from Geraldine to Farlie if you go down through the Mackensie country. Could save a bit of fuel. What do those who are leaving at 8am think???

Just checked out where you were talking about and I think for me heading down abit later I will go past Dunedin and turn right at Milton. And come up that way towards Ettrick. Havnt been to Dunedin for a long long time.

That way we get times going three ways for future reference
