A while back I gave away my 20 meter nylon 6 tonne+ tow rope - not a great idea. Does anyone know where I can get some good 20mm rope at good price in Christchurch. 9 meter strap just isn't long enough sometimes, so will get a new 20m. If rope already has spliced end loops that would be even better.

It is not a good idea to have a 20metre nylon rope because it will stretch 50 % . You are better with polyester at that lenght.
A 7-9 metre nylon is the only way to go for a short rope and let the stretch do the work.

Go to cookes and get them to make one up, cost me about $60.00 to have mine made. they know it as marine rope.

Neither, it is polypropylene! ie the same stuff some thermals are made from.
Nissan Terrano coilovers, turboed VH45, Safari axles, and some other stuff.

Neither, it is polypropylene! ie the same stuff some thermals are made from.
Re-read Darinz response and edited this accordingly.
So if Polypropylene stretches 35%; it would fit between Nylon and Polyester for elasticity?

Thanks for ideas guys - phoned Cookes in Chch and they had a price of about $60 for a 20m polyprop rope, but as am a Cantab 4x4 club member they gave me a third off and also splice end loops for free. So total cost is $41 which is great.

Picked up my 20meter polyprop rope with ends spliced yesterday from Cooke's Chch, and total with club discount was $45 - pretty good deal. About 6 tonne rating.
Asked staff few questions and they sell at least three different rope products suitable for 4wd use. The difference is polyprop (also sold as Danline) has minimal stretch, while nylon and polyester ropes have quite alot.
20m polyprop more of a long distance recovery rope - across rivers etc - without much snatch stretch. I use normal 8000kg straps for shorter and snatch recoveries. Polyester and nylon ropes can do both jobs, but you'd need bigger breaking strain than 6 tonne. Have seen 8 tonne straps break more than once snatching trucks out of pea gravel/mud etc.
