Terrano Engine Numbers

Post by Hellbound »

Hi,
I was wondering if someone could shed some light on these.Im picking up a 86 Terrano (an oldie but a goodie :D ) on sunday. Its not for full on offroading its just my fishing hack as me 2wd is struggling to get to my haunts now
Now its a NON turbo 2.7 but the engine number starts with TD27.I assumed TD stood for turbo diesel???

TD is the engine model code. Like Patrols, the bigger brother of the Terrano, TD42 just means diesel 4.2. In your case diesel 2.7. In Patrols, factory turbo was TD42T. I don't know if the Terrano had the same "t" suffix added to it when it was factory turbo charged.

Cool thanks mate,I was just wondering because well mainly I hadnt heard of non turbo diesel terranos and just wanted to make sure everything was in order.
Anyone know when they stopped producing non turbo diesels? Was it an option with the 90's models?

Cheers.

tgaguy1 is spot on, terrano is the the same as the safaris - well except the fact the only 2.7 wif 4 cylinders n not 4.2 6cylinders, its the T on the end that stands for turbo.

My understanding with the Turbos is up untill about the 96 model they were factory on Autos but the manuals were naturally aspirated, same with the safaris, but it is a very common mod to add the turbos to the manuals.

Im never wrong thou sometimes I am mistaken :D If anyone wants to correct me on that

Yip thats me, still have had no luck trying 2 sort out the heating problem, pissed round wif the viscous fan that all seems to running fine, so took it to Grant at Whangarei Radiators and its not the radiator either, we discovered after running it at full revs for 2-3 minutes the radiator started foaming with a milkly substance - I thought shit thats the head gone, but its not using any oil, the oils nice n black and there a no oils leaks but anyway I still got a compression test done just incase and thats has come back perfectly fine so again im stumped as to what the hell the problem with it is.

You got any other ideas???

is it one of the motors with the fuel heater at the back of the block. if its got fuel lines running to the block just check the heater as it may have cracked and your leaking diesel into the water.

the other thing is water pump on the way out. foam caused by air being sucked in past the seal.

Grant was my best suggestion!! He's my main supporter and has put almost as much time into my truck as I have.
If fan hub is working, the rad is fine and I think you said you'd checked the thermostat, then I'd be checking water pump as what else can it be? This sort of thing sucks as all you can do is keep elimating things.

I've got a VG30 sitting in my next project if you want to just go for some more power. I've owned it for 8 years and it comes with a 5 speed (that has been rebuilt) and everything else you'll need to bolt it in. ie loom, ecu radiator pedals clutch etc etc. All I want is the body chassis and dash. It is still a very good runner with rego on hold ie no rust no dent etc but not worth seeling and I have a few ideas of a really cool project.

as fun as a V6 petrol could be, I think il just leave her as a Diesel for now , I cant wait to see what you do to this terrano body, a u going to build it into a new winch truck?.

How would be the best way to cheak if the water pump is running al good?

I had a bit of a luk round and couldnt see anything, when I drain the radiator the cooliant comming out does seem to look containamated at all, so im guessing this anit the problem. Can any1 tell me if the TD2.7t has fuel heaters???

So im now guessing its the water pump,

I had a chat with Grant and he is pretty certain your problem is inside the radiator. ie it needs to have a tank pulled off and a good clean out. Until you've had this done then the flow though the radiator just isn't enough to cool things.

As for the Terrano, once money starts to flow I'll start work on it, not sure when that will be but what I have planned may suprise a few people. That is if it works, if it doesn't a few will have a good laugh at my expense. Such is life!!!

Not sure yet. There are plenty of other options out there. Also I want to built this without pulling apart my current ruck as it is planned as a long term build ie 2 years or so.
But I wonder how a 1500kg truck with 400kw would go :?: :!: :!:
