350 chev problem

350 chev problem

dont know why but the flex plate on the back of the turbo 400 trans has now caused a bend in it so when the motor is runing it is now just tapping on the starter motor ,any thoughts on why it has just happend

have you got the trans off ? check the ring gear hasnt slipped, i have heard of some that crack the welds holding the ring gear on and slipping off the plate, also are the ring gear bolts tight still? plenty of them around so dime a dozen :wink:

maybe post on the NZV8 forum, theres a heap of guys that REALY know thier stuff on there :wink:

the trans in in the hole still and was hopeing not to pull it out but will check the welds on the ring gear

yea pop the inspection cover off and check all the bolts, also may not be the flex plate,check the torque converter bolts, have had a few cases in the past(when i was a car fixer person)where the converter bolts come loose and start rubbing on the inside of the bell housing. easy fix, pop one off at a time and locktite it back in until you have worked your way around and done them all :wink:

I have also seen faulty starters allowing the pinion to float and just touch the ring gear.
