deep water land based fishing

anybody know of some good deep water land based fishing spots in the Coromandel area, spend quite a bita time up there over xmas break, went to Fletchers Bay last year, unreal spot, didnt get a chance to fish but saw plenty of promising spots looking down the cliff faces, looked like fairly deep blue water with rocky outcrops????

yep fletcher bay is pretty good spot, done a bit up there over the years pretty much anywhere up there is good fishing mate, if you go right up to fletcher bay then walk around the corner a bit to the ledges, burly up a storm and put the biggest Kahawai you can catch onto a 24kg livebait rig you will hook up some huge kings also stray line pillys and piper do well and normal stuff if you just want snapper.

probably going to head up there somewhere with the Yak around the 21st to get a xmas feed

mint, thought you might reply, saw you talking about this on another thread, we hopeing to spend a couple nights up Fletchers after new years, do you mean walk over that hill, from Fletchers? theres that track? im not rigged up for kingis yet, probly just be targeting Snapper

yea over the hill or walk around the rocks, im not to sure about the snap spots as i go for the kings up there but im sure the snaps are there as well and we normaly get a few of them.

if ya keen hop on the ferry to mayor island outa tauranga bout a 3hr trip camping huts etc there and land based fishing is awesome i used to commercial fish there have seen 300kg makos chasing 30/40kg kings (in fact we caught that bugger)and marlin at rods length off the rocks

hey wopass, theres a liquidation sale on this weekend in Waiuku, fishing and hunting gear, me an the old man are goin, im gona buy me a new boat rod, contimplating going to a soft bait setup, as the old mans got plenty a boat rods to use, what would you recomend i get for a good all round good quality setup that can handle big fish??? for a good softbait rig i dont think you could go past diawa for "bang for buck" but i havent tried many so dont realy have an educated opinion so to speak, i have a diawa 6-8kg rig and its awesum,
