So far... up at 6:30, put rear seats in truck...

8:00 Goto VTNZ - They had a break in this morning, so no wof's
8:30 goto warrant cafe.. Failed wof on Handbrake travel, Fog lights and rear seat belts (3rd row)

9:30 - Remove all interior panels in boot and wood storage stuff with speakers etc... Remove seat belts. One stubborn bolt required repeated use of a large hammer and 500mm bar. Removed fog lights for today.. fixed handbrake

11:00 - return to Warrant cafe... all good. passes. Then have to pay rego (12 months) and RUC (10K's) - $605!!??!?!?!?!? :shock:

11:30 - re-assemble rear...

1:30 temperature guage all over the place... trying to find sender.. have to resort to engine manual... must be lunch time..

And thats just saturday morning!!!!

did a major service/tune up on the bus (comodore s/w) today :shock:

damn parts all add up when you put it all together :cry:

plugs,leads,air filter,oil,oil filter,wiper blades... $200 squid later :shock:

and off on holiday for a week down to gisborn tomorrow so ...

Until I give it a clean bill of health ... .yes.... starter should be sorted tuesday. temperature sender, ripco dont have any, so will try a couple of other places on monday. Took 80 seconds to go from just under red to normal, so i think the sender must be stuffed...

Bill, did the fuel gauge fluctuate at the same time? My old 70 series used to have a temp gauge fit every now and again but engine temp was always normal

. Put it down to the voltage stabiliser in the dash, if the fuel gauge changes at the same time it'll be the stabiliser.

Now off down to a farm deep in the King country to check out some tracks he's made for 4wding. He is setting it up for trips so might turn out as a good destination in the future. Thunder and lightning here at the mo, so hopefully I can come out with an "acheivement"

Unfortunately not... shes getting through water too, so I think there may be a problem with the head

... 80 seconds is still pretty quick to cool down, I would expect it to take at least 4-5 minutes at idle sitting still.

Will keep playing

motors still under warranty with blairs so if it blows up, it will just be off the road again until they can fix it...

i didn't do much this weekend i disconnected the anti roll bar and drove it on the stump to see what difference it made it wasn't as big a difference as i had hoped

also put in another stereo this one has a cd and digital tuner the other one was so old school

i have to look around for a suspension lift kit now i think i also looked at the body mounts and i can't see much in the way of brake lines etc that will be affected by a body lift

also looked around hamilton for some new tyres where is the best place in hamilton to buy decent tyres

Convinced a couple of guys and their trucks to come out in the rain with me to check some prospective tracks. Virgin bush country with some fresh crawler cut tracks, plenty of revs and a little bit of winching too. Really cool day

Mercutio - FYI, 3 trucks today- mixed clay bush tracks, mine Lux V8 on 35" G/Y MTR's (10-14psi), next Lux 3YE on 35" creepies(9-13psi), last 40 Crusier 3b on 33"x12.5 Mongrels (15psi). And who would I say had the best tyre day? yeap the bloody Mongrels - they went really well :!:

If you're keen I'll give you a Te Kuiti tyre shop number and a reference that will get you a good deal.

Saturday, got a load of coal 1.2 ton ($61!) for the winter... And put funny little 31's back on my Paj, turns it into a go-cart!

Sunday, put my SWB springs in the LWB as I've sold the LWB's, sold the engine out of the 1999 Pajero so spent most of the afternoon cursing at how much crap is on a modern vehicle. just got a few bellhousing bolts to go (the arkward ones...) then I should be able to get it out. Mission for the week to get the engine ready to lift out, get all wiring out of the way to lift the body off after easter.

Had an awsome weekend at the Central Zone Teams recovery event. Not sure where we came yet but talking to other teams it seems as though it could have been anyones.

Day one went really well completint the first 4 hazards without any real drama only loss was my front locker due to what appears to be the solenoid packing it in.

Day two was a bit more difficult as the overnight rain and the churning up of the tracks from the day befor made it a challenge. The first hazard almost put me on my side with my left wheels up a bank and my wing mirror about 100mm out of the bog. The third hazard was a long winch up a boggy hill this saw the first wagons winch giving up. The rest of the 60 mins was spent recovering him. Then my batteries failed due to winching so that ended in a DNF. THe final hazard was a non event, with two dead winches it wasnt going to be possibe.

It was a great event looking foward to next years when my new safari is up and running.

Well, I bought a lifted surf on tues:

And finally got 2 tak it out on sat+sun.
Went to the Waimak on Sat got really stuk in some ruts so had 2 call up a m8 from deerstalkers for a tow. By the time he got there it was dark so became a night recovery so finally got out at about 7pm. Then went and did some colombo runs (damn it gets some looks!) till about 1am. Im lovin drivin up next to the sacked out riceburners on chromes with exhaust jst bout touchin th ground they jst look up and pull the fingers!!! hehe

Then Sun arvo went up nd down worsley wit a m8 in his cruiser had a great time. Now my trucks totally covered in mud!

So all in all a good wkend cnt wait to do sum mor offroad ventures!

Altho I seem to hav a problem in the surf with everytime I drive at night with the lights on the battery goes totally dead meaning it needs a pushstart. It only happens with driving lots at night. So i duno any thoughts??

Alternator on the way out? full of Waimak mud? Battery nearly buggered? Bad earth? Could be a few things... go into a battery place or an autosparky and have them test the battery - probably needs a new one.

Nice truck... got rid of the old one? I assume this ones all legal then?

Yeh this ones legal and i sold the d/cab hilux it was gona cost to much to get back on the road. This ones in absolute mint cond hardly any offroad work and has had a recondition done on motor, 3" exhaust pipe, 100mm suspension lift, 33"s etc etc was a promo vehicle in Japan.
Only bummer is its IFS. I only ever found 2 beamers and they wanted far too much for such stuffed vehicles. So yeah if your at ur shed, steve, thur afternoon or sumtime around easter Ill come and giv u a gander of it as im at eastercamp

yeah what a rip.. its been a few years since I had my diesel landy and it wasnt quite that much back then..
why i bet with that $605 you could have bought a nice stylish dash mount GPS to tell your speed then unscrewed your speedo cable from the gearbox, cable tied it up nice and secure for a quick re-install at WOF time and never paid RUC again... but then that wouldn't be very honest of me.. err... you.. would it?

what we need is a bunch of small biodiesel 'syndicates' around NZ covering all the districts, then we get together and bulk order rapeseed oil and run our trucks on 20 cents a litre.

Make one, it would be cheaper than running a Diesel when you take into account servicing, economy, RUC etc etc.

My acheivements were:

Popped the front windscreen and side windows out of the Rugger, did some measuring and scheming, and some more measuring and yet some more scheming, made some phone calls, found someone i know that has a pipe bender and a trade account with a steel supplier, and booked a mate in to do a half decent job of removing the roof.

Decided i need a Hilux front axle.
Ben has offered me a housing minus internals, so either I find the internals or find some one with a complete diff..........

Yeah, you'll pay more for seperate internals than a complete axle... just the way it is. Most Hilux front axles complete hub to hub are gonna sting you $500 or more... you might find an old Hilux for close to that, problem is the only thing worth anything on them IS the front axle

(and how many old trucks do you really need? :lol:

another reason which people on here prob cant really relate to..........when you spend 70 hrs a week driving kws and westerns getting shakken around on those south and north island goat tracks and forrest access rds well you deserve to ride in a nice wagon in the weekends :wink:

but i think if those southerners had more bush stuff like us they too would soon see the light :wink:

Ben's cruiser is more comfy to ride in than the Safari :shock:

Leave's in the front seem to be easier to make articulate than coils as well.

Have seen a rugger down south (Nelson) that is running a four link set up front and rear using Terrano rear end links. Goes quite well.

This is going to be a bush truck. Much like scotty's redwreck :wink:

If you do end up with more than one I need to get hold of the "J" arm for the RH front swivel hub. Or anyone else out there that may have this piece lying round......

There are old shitters around you can get axles out of. I got front and rear axles hub to hub (apart from the F-ing J arm), driveshafts, chassis, springs for $300. The guy even delivered them to my work from 3 hours away :shock:
