terrano budget build

Post by Ryan »

thould id start a build thread on my old terrano now i got rid of the zuk......
budget build!!
starts with a basicly standard 94 widebody terrano with a 2inch sus lift running 31x10.5x15 road tyres.

wants: to turn it into a fairly capable truck that can fit the family, and to fix a couple of the usual problems these things have.....

in the last week i have aquired extractors(fix the cracked manifold problem) ,just got a 3inch body lift kit
and got some brand new mangle rims......
picks will come in time, as will updates as things progress....

update::::: well extractors went to shite, the supllier never actually had any and cant afford the $1000 odd for new ones so they are of the list!!
any way next....mangle wheels ended up being to small so they are for sale now.... :?

went and picked up new tyres today 33x12.5 maxxis bighorns on 15x8 black steel rims very nice!!
allot bigger than i thought so we measured them and what do ya know....they measure 34inches!!!
can see a bit of guard trimming could be in order...hope to do body lift early to mid jan next year

How did you get them off? I need to do mine soon so I can put some rubber ones on.

yep they are the widebody ones...tale of the mudflaps first(phillips screws) then undo the rest of the screws round the arches, either drill or break the rivets(1or2 each flare) then start from one end and pop the clips that go into the guards.
almost feels like the flare will break but pops off....

hope this helps mate....

Thanks, that helps heaps.
When you say to pop the clips, do you mean prize the flare from the guard?
Do you think there would be too much guard removed if one was to trim it to where the old clip holes are? What other way is there to male it look better with new rubber flares fitted, to disguise the old flare mounting holes that is?
I am thinking of using the wide Bushranger flares.

Careful of the garden edging, it wont give on contact and the guards will bend under pressure, IMHO.
No I didn't drop the radiator, I just removed a section of the lower cowling, its in two pieces. I took the outer piece off, clipped together from memory, so the fan blade cleared it. The bottom hose was shortened at the bottom wheer there is a sensor in the hose. There was a short metal section on mine there, so we just cut the hose to suit and the top one remained the same.
The main feeder hose from the power steering reservoir will need extending/replacing too. I got a new section of hose for that.

personally i would stay well away from garden edging, cheep but costs more in panels that it bends, its just not flexible enough, i made that mistake.

pete, if you trim guards upto the clip holes you will have big work on your hands, i trimed my guards by 15mm, (plenty for my true 33'' tyres) i then re fitted the trimed off part between the skins on the rear and pop rivited all the way round, painted the exposed metal edge and then fitted rubber guard flare you couldnt even tell it had been trimmed if it wasnt for the pops.

ryan, if you put your origional 3 remaining guards on trade me it will more than pay for the rubber flares as they fetch a small fortune, wreckers want $250 each for them!!! you wont have to much difficulty selling them...... i have done most of the mods you are doing/going to do on my old v6 trano (on a budget as we all are) if you need any pics i have a few of guard mods etc just pm me your email.
