Canopy build

Post by pajeroboy »

well i was getting sick of my soft top on the pajero leaking and not staying together s decided to do a hard top canopy conversion, mite not be as exciting as a beam conversion but oh well.

so i had one of theseImage

after bit of thought and lots of measring verious diff canopys fom utes and surfs and landcruisers i decided on one of theseImage
and it was cheep,hehe :D

so did thisImage

had to patch the front bit because of the angle the slideing window was onImage
Image

then had to space the surf canopy up bit higher as the pajero roof is higher so put spacer of bout 14mm under, got some angle on both sides of spacer to seal down on outside and give me mounting points for inside

then had to fleir the top to mach up to the pajero body workImage

after a lot of cleaning up and sanding, also made a couple mounts for top then fiberglassed over all the bog/patched panels and top mounts, then more boging to smooth out.
then it was up to painting so went black, match the truck and there a kinda black theam of black on my truck, hehe.

the top of canopy is cut to over hang the fatory rubber seal that was there from where the soft top seald agasnt, there a big channel infront of that seal so all the water runs down there,it hasnt leaked anywhere yet :) ,as for sides i made the spacer/fixing point slid down the out side of same channe/body seal, and then filled the cap under surf canopy.

yeah seams fine at mo,if does start leaking then ill change it a bit but at mo it all good, yeah maybe make up some light mounts for it,havnt really decided yet, maybe one ill do roll cage inside then exo maybe.but im pretty happy a present.

i do have both side slidng windows, if someone wants one give me a reasonable offer.

good stuff man. been thinking bout trying to do something similar but yours looks like a good way. and im fairly lazy so will prob just leave my soft top off, as i will still be dry in the front. im sure there are plenty of others around that will be happy to see the idea too.

good sh*t!
