SWB Vitara 2 inch body lift HELP

Post by dave_a »

Hi Guys

Just got some 2 x 2 inch box section cut up for the body lift.

now big problem is that the bolt that goes through is way to long and you cant just cut it shorter because the thread only goes up about 35mm.

I was thinking of just doing this Image

is there any problems with putting the spacers this way? looks like it will give more like a 3 inch body lift though and not 2 inch with the extra spacer being from the bottom and put onto the top.

how have you all done it? please help I cant go 4wding again untill I get this done

If you are doing it this way make certain you use some thing to locate in the chassi, the hole in the chassi outrigger is alot bigger than the bolt shown in the pic and you will want something other than a washer to hold it in on the bottom, I've used 4 mm plate on the Calmini lift kit as there washer is just unsafe

I'm uncertain of the length of the captive bolts on the vitara but if they are the same length as the Escudo then you have two options easyist is to cut out an access hole in the floor and shove a grinder in and grind the head off the bolts so you can replce them with bolts (I've done this on one escudo usign a plasma worked a treat but the truck is a bit of a roughy)
The other option is get some special bolts made up that allow you to put your spacer block up on the body with the rubbers where they are spose to be... the special bolt is hollow and threads onto the captive body bolt  to fit this bigger bolt you pull the plastic insert out of the upper rubber and drill the bottom one and its washer, at the time we were doing Weemsy's truck I gave up on this becouse of the cost of the calmini kit, after seeing how cheap and nasty the kit is I wish I had done this
The cheapist option is the just over 3" lift setup you are running in the pic above all you need to finish it is some collets to fit in the chassi outrigger hole to locate it and some hd washers

at the risk of being branded an idiot (some would say its to late  ) why not make the thread go all the way up the bolt ? use a tap and die, or take it into and engineering shop if you dont have the tools, im sure they would do it for some liqiud - if that.

might give you an idea.

much better kit than the Calmini crap one.... when the english one is installed the spacer sits up against the body with the rubber still working the way its intended in the chassi out rigger 8) pitty about price thats gona come in at around the $450 mark by the time its landed :(
Are there many people who want kits becouse I could look at making some of these bolts if there is enough interest, I gave up on the idea becouse the calmini kit is so cheap

cheaper to get engineering plastic the right size and grade you need, with a female sleeve made up then high tensile bolts, bolt in and just 1's longer for the front

If you are going to make up female sleeve-bolts to suit a two-inch lift, I'd be keen on a couple of sets.

I certainly agree about the Calmini kit, it could be done much better and more elegantly. I put one on truck No.2 and am not very happy with it.
