FJ70 Fitting of a snorkel?

Post by Kempy »

Howdy,
Im thinking of fabricating a snorkel up out of pressure rated plumbing pipe the only issue I face is that the stupid bloody air intake box does not lend itself to having any plastic conduit or other material attached to it due to a mounting bracket right in the way.
Does this make sense to other 70's owners? How can I get around this issue?

Any help appreciated.
Cheers,
Kempy

From memory,

Cut the existing intake off and weld a plate over it, then cut a 3 inch hole in that place you need it and weld on a 3 inch pipe, fit you flexi pipe over that, seal and you are done. Easy as

I did have to move my washer reservoir though but that’s not a biggy

If you can use a welder, grinder and rule, why not make one from steel tube instead?
They are a lot stronger and don't look like you have robbed the down pipes off your house.

This is one that I have just made up for my my 90 series (prado)

Image

Used 1mtr of 3" tube, 1 3" 180degree mandrel bend, some flexy pipe (behind the gaurd) and a Donaldson air ram.
Whole thing owes me about $150, and a a whole heap of time as this one has lots of size and shape alterations once through the gaurd.
Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!

Snip XXX

How have you mounted it to the pillar ??
any chance of a photo ?
What have you used around the pipe where it goes through the guard ?
There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.
