a lot of stuff was transplanted strait from an 80 series which made it happen nice and quick (2 week coil conversion), just cut it off and weld it on. the springs are vx as well but dont know whats going to be the final product yet as it sits too high in the rear and too low in the front, but it has the tub to go on and a lot of rear bar work to happen yet so the weight change will be quite dramatic. the rear links are custom, the front lower arms are vx rear lowers and the third link in the front off the top of the pumpkin is a rear lower arm also. the width has increased by 2" each side as well
im also thinkng of making the front end of the chassis rails and winch relitively easy to remove so when i do trials i can just pop it off and the wheels will be sticking out the front for entry angle then when we do bush trips and winch comps it can just bolt back on with a quick spring change to make it sit lower as well.... dunno yet.
but yea pretty happy

Hi Ben
Have you thought about shifting the spring platforms instead of different springs? Maybe the hieght you've welded them on at isn't right for the chassis. What I'm getting at is the spring rates may be OK but the mounting position just not quite right? Just something for you to think about (if you haven't already that is).
If you have an 80 maybe you can measure that to see the relative hieghts?
A fair bit to do if we are going to see you in March!

Hi Ben,
Looking good, I see you used the VX front.
Surprised you didn't do a 4 link in the back, ie top links in a triangle and no panard, more flex and less stress on the rubber bushes. Still, if the top and bottom links aren't to dissimilar in lenth then should still flex okay.
See ya next week
Tim

everything has been transplanted from the 80 series and the top hats for the rears couldnt really go anywhere else so when ive got all the rear end finished and barred up i will then be able to start setting up the springs to work. im hoping to have it all sorted and rocking for the comp mate, cross fingers... all the hard stuff has been done so now all i have to do is the fiddly stuff like brake lines and handbrake cable, rear shocks etc then cert etc ... cross fingers on that aswell

yea mate used the VX front, will just see how it goes and hope its strong enough
the top arms are 110mm shorter than the lowers and on almost excactly the same angle so it should work ok?... will find out soon enough i guess...

little bit more done on the finer details of the build while waiting for the body to come back which will be soon.
haver sorted the rear shock mounts top and bottom so just need some new shocks now
have sorted the brake lines front and rear to run down the upper controll arm with flexys at each end
still to do is my bigger sump, finish welding the rear control arms, rebuild the front hub assembly, overhaul the rear brakes etc, overhaul front brakes, sort out what im doing with the hand brake, get some adjustable panhards, drop body on,make rear end, sort out springs for ride height, test it,flex it,cert it,do skids..... etc etc etc

yea im pretty happy with my progress... was planning to have it near finished by now but dumb work gets in the way and the rust repairs took longer than i had hoped as i have ended up repairing my chassis instead of getting one that diddnt need much work...never mind, its all good now...or will be when i fill the rails up with rust converter then fill it with zink paint
should look the buisness when im finished....i hope
