DAMMIT ! another project/repair....

Post by wopass »

well there i was in the garage thismorning and thought to myself...

"hey i know, ill have a look to see which rubber mount ive torn as the transfer/G box/engine has been shoved by the rear drive shaft being too long and now i cant get it into low box".... yea i measured wrong....

anyway, there i was under the cruiser looking at the bell housing mounts and saw this...

Image

thought to myself... "Hmmm thats wierd..."

then looked a bit more and saw this...

Image

said to myself... "well theres the problem"...."you fuking moron !...."

there was some more swearing and self abuse but i wont go into that here...

so here it is, another project... or repair ?

replace my old faithfull 3spd with a 4spd ?

or just fix/find another 3spd bell housing ?

Must have been a fair bit of force on that to make it crack, lest it happened when it had a trailer to get it home!!!!!!

hey now :D , do tell me more. if im to go for the 4spd i would need all of it including the transfer box and bell housing etc as from what info i have is the 3spd transfer wont fit the 4spd box ? and then il have to do something about my PTO as i dont think that will fit the 4spd transfer case ?

what sort of coin does your mate want for the bits ?

dont need a full floater tho, im going to be putting the 60's housings under it at some stage soon 8)

as for towing, yea those damn nizzans are a heavy heap to tow.....

I`m looking 4 a winch for my FJ40 as well. Have the 4 speed box and like the power of the PTO but think it may just be easier to put an electric unit in. Maybe 12v 8000lb plus.

Have been told the PTO's can be a pain in the arse to fit to the FJ40's.

Anyway if you guys hear of a good winch for the $100 to $150 mark that is suitable I`d be keen also. :D

the pto winches are fkn awesum man and if you get a 40 series one they just bolt on. i managed to get my winch unit for $400 off a guy in taupo that had it on a recovery/tow truck then just had to make a drive shaft up for it and bolt it in, very easy to do and so much winch,

the 8000lb electric winch will be blowing its arse trying to pull the cruiser if your well stuck  which you will be  . my pto just laughs at anything i throw at it  still havent had to double line any recoverys ive done yet,and i dont think i ever will :D

Your gona be waiting a while for one to come up at that price
A PTO winch second had is twice that and electric's around 4 times that at least

I'm with Ben, Go the PTO its just so much faster stronger .... hassle free :D :D

i have to invest in a trifor as well for those times when the engine just won't go what is better though a trifor winch or highlift jack

Ok guys, I`m convinced - PTO it is.

Have a PTO on the front of my Safari but managed to blow the worm gear straight through the front of the housing  In saying that it got me and the boat out of some hairy situations :P

Will look to get a high lift & hand winch as well. Setting up is fun :D but expensive :(

How about a whole BJ60 - use the winch & keep the rest for parts...
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... d=54404542
I also had no trouble fitting a PTO - just had to shorten the D/S since it had come off a 60 series with 5spd box.

you could use the boat to take the winch rope to the otherside of some of the puddles

Yeah, maybe I`ll start a new craze - Mud Boggin plus puddle surfing - at the same time. Sounds like fun.

Seriously though - The PTO winches have a heap of power. We pulled a 2 tonne boat right though sand above the axels on the trailer and at the same time managed to have the winch cable chew an inch through a 3mm plate of steel on the truck  Must get a new winch guy  .
That is some real power (enough to make up for the dumb arse learning how to use it  ).

Ok, sorry no more talking about boats on a 4x4 site. Sorry Wopass, I seam to have taken this string way off topic.

Looking for a PTO winch (or two) off a 4spd Cruiser. Post a message if you guys know of any 4 sale.

ok so you need a pto to fit your 4spd, i have learned some new stuff recently  the non split 4spd T case is a different PTO unit than a split type T case. so theres another thing to look out for

and i still need a PTO for a split type 4spd transfer case, i think these are on the 60 & 70 series cruisers.

i will have a PTO (winch not included) off my 3spd transfer case for sale (transfer and G box included) which i think may fit the non split type 4spd transfer case ?... not sure tho
