Really, my two would do 500-550kms out of a 65litre tank, thats on a par with 4ltr falcons (of which ive had a few) so it depends on what you call scoffing i suppose, cause i was quite happy with that.

Drawbacks.... suspensions mods are a drama going over a 3 inch lift, unibody means you cant do a body lift. Transmissions tend to be a bit niggly, the 95's ( i think) had a transmission recall once upon a time. Electrics are touchy at times. trans tunnel takes up a fair bit of leg room. Plusses, the entire unibody is galvanised..... so no rust!

For 5 odd k id say its a pretty good deal, as long as theres no majors. Having the rear end done is a bonus, as the dana 35's have a rep as being a bit weak. spare left front axles are a bonus too.

Freudian no doubt.....

there was a recall years back as a breather blocked or something causing it to overheat and subsequently fail, mate had his one sorted years back through the recall

I just looked and it's on my doorstep (well, it might be a few Ks away, but it'll be close).

I don't think I've seen it around, but (if you bear in mind I'm a lay-person) I could give it once-over if you're serious and the seller is OK with that.

I have a chrome grill in the garage. Unfortunately it's for the original XJ shape, not the '97 on facelift so that is no help whatsoever.

Actually silver, as in metallic silver paint, wouldn't look too bad. I'm with the others on the chrome though, hence why there is a chrome grill for a pre-facelift in my garage and a black one on my XJ.

Ian has me thinking though - maybe I should paint my chrome one dayglo green or something. It might look quite cool against the black Jeep. For occasional use only I think, though.

Good idea that Ian has, you can spot his jeep at 2000m when down the south coast
