On TM I spotted this http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 390751.htm
I appreciate $500 might not be accurate, but the reason I was looking is that I have plenty of space and I was thinking if I could get an ideally 1996 Limited that is damaged for not much Dollar it would be a nice source of spare parts and possibly some extra toys like leather seats for my '96 Sport.
So, what's that likely to actually sell for, how easy would it be to get it to Masterton and is it just a lump of metal now as far as LTNZ are concerned?
Can anyone explain to a pom buying a deregistered car?

Re: Can anyone explain to a pom buying a deregistered car?
I would do that, but I don't know if that is "the one" and even if it is it might not be available soon enough for you.
If you end up with a full car I'd be into leather seats in black or grey (or even a grey cloth driver's seat that isn't totally past it) and the OE roof rails as I seem to need my cheapo SuperCheap ones quite often when I don't have them and they howl at speed so I don't want them on all the time. A clock would be nice, too.
Did the XJ come with a load cover blind that mine is missing or was it an option?

I reckon you'd pay more for the transport than the jeep. The bosses wife just bought a 98 nissan bluebird with frontal damage and everything else fine from turners damaged for 1200. not quite the same but you get my point? Wouldn't think it would go for too much more. Just a lump of metal now to ltnz.
Re: Can anyone explain to a pom buying a deregistered car?
my xj is basic, no leather, no clock , no load cover blind ,and at the mo no trans....ther was another one on tm in nelson but it got pulled was 1500....or so..found a trans down here they want $450.00+gst...

Thanks. Can an XJ tow a complete XJ on a transport trailer safely / legally?
Yeti - my XJ is a trans ahead of yours just now.

As long as you can stop within 7m at 30km/h it's legal. I've towed my surf with an '08 navara no problems, You'll definately feel it but it should be fine if your brakes are good.

and I need a right rear tail light after a trip to Rallywoods on Boxing Day - so buy it and it won't be long before you have your money back.

Thanks chaps. I'll register and try to be available for when it's auctioned. Maybe I'd best check how quickly after auction it needs to be collected as well.

Yep, not worth trying to get back onto the road, so only worth it for wrecking now. Reckon it would go for under a grand.

You could always phone them in advance and they will ring you when it goes up and you bid via telephone.
Try Brian Roberts Towing from Pukekohe (also have depot on Onehunga I think). They transport a lot of damaged vehicles around the North Island. Maybe able to do a deal for a back load heading south. Used them before and told them no rush so they do it when they have space and Turners don't worry too much as long as they have been paid and know that the commercial transport will be taking it in due course.

That's great, thanks. I'll chase that down. I just realised the auction is tomorrow when I had next week in mind for some reason. Finger out time I guess!

Re: Can anyone explain to a pom buying a deregistered car?
Time is a bit tight to get this sorted today with the other stuff I have got on, and I'm in no rush so I think I'll keep my eyes open for one in Palmerston Nth or Wellington which would make the logistics much easier for me.
That doesn't help with a trans, for which I apologise. I'll let people know if/when I have one though the intention is not to part it out for money, but then a mate in the UK started a business wrecking Golf GTIs after he initially bought one for spares for himself.
