pulled the POS out of the garage and gave it a wash, replaced a rim on the front with a minor bit of damage on it with the spare and went for a little test, still has a weird shake in the front end, so it could be the perished panhard rod bush, or the alignment or mud in a tah. Taz and Reece (thanks guys) helped me pull off the existing bent steering arms and straighten them with some temporary bracing until Jafa gets the new ones made. Will try and get to Robs this week and see if he can check it out. with this issue hopefully fixed then I can get the play in the steering box adjusted.....and that will be another issue on it fixed.

Again, im kinda outa kilter with the dates....
RJ and I went down ot the Ngaroma block at Pureora on Thursday morning (and were joined by one of the cozzie 4wheelers on Friday) and camped at the new site there, and have to say its a bloody great job that the King Country guys and gals have done down there to provide such a cool setup.
Had a bit of an issue finding the camp ground, but got there eventually thanks to DB's helpful directions. If i had have just gone up the road a further 50mtrs i would have fallen over it. Cruz and Lynn also rocked up to make sure we had made it ok, as id left a message on his phone trying to figure out WTF we were. Great yarn and thanks for the visit Dennis and Lynn. (did you guys kill the bunny that was on the road the next morning?
)
Had a ball in the old tracks and explored some of the new tracks that the KC crew had put in out the back of the camp. Had the expected breakages with an axle (same spot that you did yours on the hill climb benny) an antenna, and 6 eggs followed by a clogged and overheating radiator.... might take a blind with me next time!
Although the tracks were dry, the holes were still full of lovely silty muddy water and provided much entertainment......

you just KNOW youve had a good weekend when your truck looks like this!!!!!!!!!!!!
Will definately be heading back sooner rather than later for another play while the weather holds up.
top marks again to the KC Club for nont only the development of the camp, but also for doing such a great job to have a place like this for all of us to experience.

Re: 10th & 11th of Jan
After replacing a blown 4pinion diff in my Prado last week, Today I (along with the help of an old 4wd mate, thanks dude
) rebuilt my wrecked full time 4wd transfer case with a donor KZN185 Surf transfer case. Hopefully all will work as I haven't test driven yet because I started to alter the transfer case lever so it would clear the console after the body lift, and my brand new 200a mig had a hissy fit, so I will have to borrow one tomorrow and sort that.
Munted diff head.

And munted centre diff from transfer case

Would have been if I had been nailing it, but I actually wasn't. I did have it cross axled and loaded the handbrake to stop loose wheels spinning though (stupid thing to do with ctr diff locked anyway), But didn't expect the handbrake to break hardened steel bits!
I think there may have been some sort of pre-existing damage to the drive train, possibly from others loading the gear changes (backwards then slap it into 1st before coming to a stop etc).
But when it went bang, the adjectives where flowing quite freely

Re: 10th & 11th of Jan
I spent last week wiring up a couple of switches in the jeep to give more control of the auto. First switch turns the Transmission Control Unit on and off - in the off position it is like a manual. The other switch allows me to select 2nd gear. While it is a 4 speed auto there is only 3 idents - 1/2, 3, D. When I select 1/2 going down a semi steep hill the TCU selects 1st, the switch forces it into 2nd.
Then went out with the CCVC Family Shiny trip through the Aka's on Saturday. A good day out, and time to test out the mods. Worked well, the 2nd gear switch definitely came in handy. Only one mishap on a greasy bit of clay track I ended up sideways across the track and the taillight I broke in Rally woods on Boxing Day is now in a lot more pieces - anyone good at jigsaw puzzles.
I am going to look at making some LED taillights in metal boxes - seen some in the US but over $US200 each.
One more switch to try out on the auto this coming week - this one locks up the torque convertor on request.
Have a great week all
Ian

SaFAGari is back in town a few weeks so tristanp and I took him out to our spot.
This happened on the way home when I saw an area we hadnt been in for a few months. It rained here a couple of days back and as shown it cut up bad.

heres the arsehole himself checking why the PTO wasnt working, shaft came out of place.

The mighty roadie had to come to the rescue. tristanp's recent buy. He went and go it after getting his POS stuck trying to turn in front of the blizzard. That was an hour into it.

And he flopped it. Looks tame, is tame. Squats to piss.

Earlier on in the day we all had white knuckle rides. I lost it going down a slope of doom, rear was a foot in the air (swb rules) ended up sideways through a 10cm tree. Damn lucky the front came round as it hit as the hill dropped straight after.
We got plenty of vids, most average, i'll see if I can get them on youpube and link them.
Best one shows the jizz-blizz getting the old sideways pop out of the hole a couple hours in. Somehow didnt folp.
Tim.

Re: 10th & 11th of Jan
Well, after dropping the tail end of my truck onto a hard river bank a few weeks back a small diesel leak (one or two drips an hour sort of small) was coming from between the tank skin and the stone guard (stupid f-n design mutter mutter mutter
).
Those unfamiliar with the early defender fuel tanks, they've got a second thicker skin 'glued' to the main tank skin and this is a well known trap for all manner of dust, grit and water between the two - stupid f-n design mutter mutter mutter
).
Over the last week the leak has slowly gotten to a steady wet patch so I took the tank off and after drilling the spot welds off the stone guard to get to the tank skin, I encountered a huge sheet of rust. A wild few minutes with a grinder driven wire brush - and a frenzied attack with a screw driver I ended up with a tank full of 38 holes...
The following shots are of the bottom of the tank only - there were several more 'stab-wounds' up the sides of the tank too also from rust between the stoneguard and the tank.

Damn but the tank skin was only foil thin in one or two places - an almighty diesel spill just waiting to happen.
Cheers to Marcel and Vicky at Mamaku 4WD for a quick dispatch of a new tank... hoping it arrives tomorrow to get the truck back up and running.

had a very productive weekend .finally managed to coax two of my builder brothers and a couple of mates to give me a hand to erect my "storage " garage.its been sitting in a pile on the corner of the section for a year.managed to get it all erected in a day
then sunday changed the locks on it .then it was musical vechicles .moved the impala from garage 1 into garage 3 so i can move the 40 from garage 2 into garage 1 SO i can finally start building my car trailer in garage 2
so now its trailer time while trying to help stinky put tuned port injection on his chev powerd nissan ( i know i know stay away from nissans they carry diseases BUT it does have a chevy in it and thats the bit i,m working on so hopefully i wont come down with any nissan related diseases ) . garage count now , NO 1 8m x6.5 m ,NO 2 7.8m x 6m ,NO 3 6mx7m .hopefully thats enough for the time being
