READ THRU THE SITE AND FIND OTHERS WHO HAVE DONE IT

theres been plenty who have done it with ease and those who wish they got someone else to do it for them.

it can be very expensive if you don't have the skills or machinery to do it yourself

and whereabouts are you located :?: :?:

Contact Jono at Performance Metalworks, 094260003. He has done heaps of 1UZ conversions including superchaged or turboed 1Uz's.

thats why I asked him where he was hiding, coz theres a guy in Taupo in the same boat as Jono.

I personally would take it to either of these guys and pay the 10k drive in/ drive out price, or thereabouts.

Cheap in the long run is buying one that's already converted and proven to be a good runner, the builder will have taken the big hit on the setup costs.

Expensive in the long run is buying one you think is okay but end up fully rebuilding. Next up is building one on the cheap and then redoing it again later.

Best to plan out what you want to use it for, what you want ie auto/manual, factory ecu or after market etc and then sit down and work out your budget.

I bought mine converted but had to rebuild gearbox, do clutch, sort out cooling and a few other bits and pieces which all cost $$$ and time.

Matt.

Have you tried your local engine importers? Or trademe?

I got the 1uz for my conversion from a importer, that way it came with everything i needed eg air flow meter, ignitors, ecu etc.
for the conversion components again trade me or Performance Metalworks or the dudes in Taupo, There are a lot of people doing these parts let you fingers do the walking!!

http://www.lextreme.com/

There are several threads about Lexus going into the Hilux including a couple that were done here in CHCH. It is a big project most of the big stuff is easy it is all the little stuff like wiring the Auto Gearbox, fuel pump and surge tanks etc that add up cooling in the front of a Hilux can be an issue, the Lexus has a hydraulic fan that flows a lot of air when running!

Good luck from the ones I know that have been done they say it is well worth the effort, others say the v6 commodore is easier and just as good an engine but there is something about a V8
Legal disclaimer: Any information I may have provided is worth exactly what you paid me for it.
