Surf Chassis Codes

Post by T-Boon »

hey I’m looking at a 1990 surf,

And i`m wondering if its got a LSD (I think it does), the Chassis code on the firewall is pictured below.

Image

I`ve been told that the body code R150F G285 means it has a R150 Box and the diff code if Even = Non LSD, and if Odd = LSD

Is this correct, as I plan to do some offroading and I believe its like pissing into the wind without even a average LSD.

Cheers
T

ok, form that i get

G - 8 Inch - 23 - 4.3 ratio - 5 - 4 Pinion LSD

so as far as i can see thats a pretty good diff as they go ?

and does that go for the front diff as well ?

Are Surf stock LSD`s very good at all ?

as said that will be an 8 inch lsd in the rear, the front will be a 7.5 inch open diff being that it will be ifs and all.
As kaney said lsd's are better than nothing and at least it means when you decide its time for a locker you can swap your lsd for some cash and an open diff to put the locker in. You can also shim the lsds to make them tighter and work a bit better which is a good option but doesn't last forever.

Ahh, yeah, i`m used to the working of LSD’s and lockers with the Drifting background, was planning on locking the Diff that was in there, but if its worth a bit of cash, then I might do the sell/swap with someone.

now, whats the strongest diff to lock up ?

YEah, right t-boon family, i`m his brother.

And as for the diff swap, i`ll get the 1UZ in first, then go from there.

Does it take any more clearance away from the sump with a different diff ?

have done another since then on maiseys surf, had to heavily modify the sump and top of the diff housing to fit as he has a bigger 1uz sump, then we also bobbed it 300mm and then cut the whole leaf spring rear end out of it and welded in a ln130 rear end, very differnt truck now!
