Hi there, I am looking at a 1999 3.0D Hilux but after AA check has a few things iffy. Any ideas on cost of repairs? Price of vehicl is reasonable but more fixes than I was hoping for.
Exhaust mount bracket broken
Front brakepads need replacing
Front drive shaft universal joint
Rear drive shaft universal joint
Leak from transfer case driveshaft seal
Tiny oil leaking from fornt engine seal
Back window latch broken
Back tray latch broken
thanks all.

replacing universals and seals is nothing unusual for a hilux. Something I've had to fix more than once or twice in the 6years I've owned mine. And to quote a mate ' with a hilux... if it can't be fixed with a hammer, its an electrical problem'
Greasable Universals approx $65 for part. not hard to do youself
engine seals, about $15 for the part,
garage? $65-70 per hour and if its toyota.. you could probably double that, as their tools are gold plated

at a guess if you dropped it at a workshop you would be looking at between 4 and 6 hundred dollars?

More than happy to do a beerathon (anyne watching Ramsey Kitchen Nightmares around 10pm will get that)... even if I do not get this Hilux I have a cruiser and a shit heap that I would be happy to accept assistance with to swap bits and get ready for recertification. I am keen to learn as much as I can so prefer to get involved rather than just pay the mechanic.
Wairarapa droughts do not leave too many mudholes but I have a bottom paddock with a couple of potential small play areas
Also a couple of camping spots if you indulge in a few too many of the above (this offer is not open to people who are a little too "friendly" with sheep.. I like my lamb to only have mint sauce
cheers
