safari driveline vibration

Post by Safari Swb »

i am getting a bad vibration in my rear driveline between 10-15kph. anything to check for? couldnt detect any play in my universals but can hear a slight driveshaft clunk when changing gear. feels like its coming from the driveshaft.

Try greasing the driveshaft, makes a big difference to vibes. Uni's in good condition? Also, been lifted? Can also cause vibes.

after a search on patrol 4x4 apparently the shudder is quite common with the 2.8, and is actually the dualmass flywheel/clutch. seems to make sence as my gq shudders between 1100-1500 rpm in any gear.

did you have this problem with yours dave??

Hey
My 4.2 GQ does the shudder thing at low revs too. I've just been told thats normal....prob means shift down. Also I've noticed clunking in almost every 4x4 iv driven. it must just be the combined play of all the driveline components as all my unis and drive shafts seem like they have no play. must just be minor transmission, transfercase, shaft and diff play. The rearend vib is new....wheels havnt thrown any of the lead weights?? maybe.

If its a shudder, my 4.2 did it, as do all the mates ones. Sorry, thought you meant more of a driveshaft type vibration.

I probably should have noticed what speeds you said it was happening to realise it was more likely to be something else

You didn't accidently run over a mattress did you???? :D

Driveline Vibration Issue - Possible Root Cause

This guy ran over a mattress and decided to keep going. The ensuing jumble finally whipped around enough to put a tear in the gas tank, the subsequent lack of fuel is what finally brought this vehicle to its knees.

It had still managed to drive 30 more miles decently with a 60lb tangle wrapped around the driveshaft.

This genius complained that the vehicle had a "shimmy" when driving it high speeds.

This is what the dealership found...
