3.8 V6 into scud.
Hi all, the engine in my scud is on its way out and i want to replace it with a commidore VN 3.8 V6 that i have sitting in my garage. i have heard that they do fit in, has anyone here done this? what gearbox should i use? any help would be great.

Re: 3.8 V6 into scud.
Im building a scud atm with a commy 6. Big mission but then again im doing alot of other mods like lux diffs. I hope your going to change your diffs to something stronger as the standard ones wont handle it
. I had a RWD skid car scud with one in it but it was mounted real low and therefore the front diff had been removed. I am running a holden auto with a cruiser transfer case adapted to it. Mine is a VR series 2 (electronic controlled auto, kickdown etc)
PM me and ill give you a link to another site where i have a build up thread on it if your interested

Yes i do plan on putting in hilux diffs, still looking for them. my scud will be stripped down to the chassis so that should make it easier to fit the new engine, plenty of room to work. i have an auto gearbox that came with the engine, would that be good enough to use?

Mr O, I am interested in your build as I am sure other ORE members are, any chance of sharing your build thread with us,

I have added my build thread. It would be easier to buy an adapter kit for the v6 to say a hilux gearbox and transfer or similar setup or find someone that is able to adapt your auto to your preferred transfer. I have gone with prado diffs and arms but it's not the best setup flex wise but its easier than a link setup or whatever (only as that is a bit beyond me at this stage but may go down that road later) I used standard scud coils in the rear with different chassis mounts and prado front coils with different chassis mounts up front.
any questions just ask.....i may be able to answer them

hey, is it not the best setup because the prado control arms are too short? do longer arms give you more flex? i really dont know much about suspension, will have to learn as i go. what shocks did you use front and back? did you have to alter the mounts much.

does the v6 fit right in or does the radiator have to be moved out of the way.

Re: 3.8 V6 into scud.
I'm rear mounting my radiator in my tray to keep it out of the shit, you could possibly cram it in there but i have changed my front crossmember (not original). I'm mounting my engine quite far back and going to do alot of chopping of the firewall and floor but thats just my idea you could do it different i just want to try and keep my weight more central.
so to sum it up......no it doesnt really fit right in unless you mount it low and then you will run into problems with diff hitting the sump etc
