hokitika to haast?

Post by tangy »

looking for a four wheel drive track on the coast. Starts at hokitika and finishes at haast, was meant to be a old rail way line or something

h, thats better. The only track I know of any length down tht way would be the cattle tracks between Jackson's river and coppermine creek. I know they come out further up the coast but not sure if it's as far as hoki. If you find out, let us know, could be an adveture comin' on.

There is no track that I know of that goes from Hokitika to Haast apart from the main highway.

There is an old rail track between the Main Rd and the sea towards Ross and a few forestry Rds along the way . There is a track at Bruce Bay and as Al said the then in at the Waita River to Coppermine Creek.

Yep, they (the cattle tracks) do go further north than copper creek but it is a DOC walking track :(

If you mean this track

Then according to the old Tumonz Property Boundaries set and the 2007 Doc land data - it is a road reserve

Drive that track on a club trip last year, most trucks lost there monsoon sheilds as the gorse is nearly inpassable, you come out by the river at ross, you could not see any thing for GORSE. you have to drive it as you cannot walk it and the bridge crossing are great

the dotted line is the track centreline - the thin grey lines are the property boundaries
