West Coast Trip

Post by DaveM »

Hi all,
I'm already getting withdrawl symptoms, so I will be looking at doing a couple of tracks over the coast in the next few weeks.
No set dates or tracks yet, but I'm open to suggestions, as it will be my first time on tracks over there.

Cheers,
Dave

Hi Dave,
pick a date and see what happens. You thinking of a weekender, meet friday nite and leavesunday arvo. If so could stay in greymouth area and do no name rd, cockeye creek etc. If you only want to do an overniter, we could meet in Reefton and go up to Montgomery hut for the nite. You need to set a date.

Hi Dave,
you wouldn't believe it, I was on the phone last night to Dad, was thinking of doing another mid-winter trip, will ring you Al about it tonight
I'm thinking of Staing at Otira pub again on the Friday night, doing either no-name rd or similar, Staying Saturday night at Ikamatua, and doing a track near there, either Staircase creek (if river levels are good) or Waitahu up to Montgomery hut.
lots of options but staying in Ikamatua 2nd night will be the go
I think last year we went mid July

Al,
was thinking of the weekend of the 20th May, would prefer a weekender, so meet Friday, leave Sunday would be good, as I hate long drives for a day trip.

Been meaning to head over there for a while, but struggle to find any locals that are keen, and you guys are rather entertaining, both on, and off the track :)

Tim,
I'm keen, so if there are later dates that you guys prefer, I'm in either way.

Yep, will pencil in may the 20th then. We can do the mid winter one as well, July is too far away for now. Let me know what the plans are then.

For the record, there are two Canterbury clubs that I know of playing around that area that weekend. Don't know if that will change things.

Got a plan sorted, Been chatting with a couple of people and have decided to stay at the Bealy hotel on Friday night the 28th July, cost there is $20 PP. The other option is at Otira hotel and that is $25 PP, personally i'd preffer to stay at Bealey.
Saturday Night 29th will be at Ikamatua Hotel at a cost of $20 PP
Both hotles have reasonably priced meals of between $12-25 depending on what you order.
So............ who's definately coming and I will make some bookings, please don't make any empty promises, only confirm if you ARE coming.
Will be a great mid winters trip

AT this stage attending:

Rob E :P
Me :P
Matt + Craig :P
Ricky :P
Bill (if truck going or as a Pax) :?
Adam :P
Kevin (if truck going) :?
Craig (possibility) :?
Mike (if someone tows his truck) :o

Will be a great trip full of laughs, anyone welcome as long as you have tow hooks and a sense of adventure, no responsibility taken for any vehicle damage :!:

What's the verdict Otira Pub on Friday night or the Bealey :?: , about the same price, in fact Bealey is $5 cheaper, thats 3/4 of a jug :D

Beastie already in for surgery - all going well should be ready to collect a few new battle scars on CoastImage. Personal preference is for Bealey - close call, but mid-winter the allure of warmth and creature comforts won out over 'the experience' Image.
