Hi Simon

Drive south from Westport on the coast road to Greymouth for about 10-15 mins. You will come to a bridge at the bottom of Costello Hill crossing the big Totara River.
Turn left at the end of the bridge and when you reach the river bed turn hard right and drive up the Tailings river for 50metres or so and you will see the track on the other side.

Follow the gravel road and then take the track to the right and carry on which eventually will eventually take you to the Little Totara and a skid site . Follow gravel road out and make right hand turns only ,which take you to the top of Costello hill and turn right back to Westport.

That is the easy way which is a drive straight through. If you want a challenge reverse the trip but you will probably need a winch.

Just one other thing Simon.

Don't do this trip if it is raining . The Tailings and Little Totara rise very quick and you could get caught between both rivers.
I have done this trip 7 times and been caught by rising water 2 times.

When I say they rise quick believe me. In less than 15 mins can be over the roof.

Here is a small video of the Tailing showing one of the times we got caught.
