I'm happy with it for now. No major mods planed from here.

The only things planed for it this year are:
1. New pistons/rings/mild cam n thinking about stroking it but not sure.
2. Camo paint job.

But this thread is pretty much done. Nothing going on here. Move along....

Yep, handbrake sorted thanks.
I can finally park the truck with the boat on the back on the boat ramp with JUST the handbrake now. Loving it!!

How's things going with yours? Done much more work on it??

Shoulder has been slow progress, i can lift a doz cans now and it doesn't get sore till about 3pm
truck has been left to rot pretty much as I can't lay on the ground under it, have still done what I can.
had the son of one of my workmates ask me to help him out installing a g/box and p/steer box in his surf, said i'd do it if he did the lifting............. 2 thirds complete and I call Rik with a small query find out his opinion as dual mass flywheel had been modified.......... only to hear that it had been booked in and cancellend at Riks for Mon, guess I go chat to Rik

The son of the workmate would of been best to mention it was booked in at Ricks first?? Oh well. Take it easy helping out others with their projects Tim. And don't go delaying the healing process of that shoulder mate. Save yourself for work on your own truck? You sound a lot like Rick, you're to much of a good bastard. You let others take advantage of your good bastard nature. At least you don't let people use your work area and tools for no charge. Rick needs his head read some days...

Sheared the axle hub again today. I'll have to look at getting something stronger some how. The axles have had a beating lately. I'm surprised they've lasted this long (the way I drive it).




After i broke it (smoking the tires ) i slipped the axle out, threw it in the back, locked the rear up n put in it in 3 wheel drive then drove it back round to Ricks. (I'd only just come from there)
I think i might of bent the axle as well. When i turned it while in the diff it didn't spin that straight.

The picture only shows the hub minus the axle. The axle is in the back of the truck. That's how the hub looked after i drove it back with no axle in it to Ricks.

hi pete,
looks as if what hapeened first is you sheared the studs that hold the drive flange secure, pretty sure Jafa has some much stronger ones available from Trail gear for the front of hilux's, they will definately fit on your rear hubs

That was talked about today but, I'm happy with leaf springs. And to go coil over all round, I'd be throwing a shit load more money into it when the extra articulation just wouldn't get used. (around the supermarket carpark )

Nah. it's complete. I think I'll always be fixing the axles plates (the way i treat my gear). It's not a major fix. Thank god.

pump your tyres harder to lessen the traction i recomend 40-50psi will lessen the chance of trmping as well

Good point tho.

I normally run 30psi round town, 40 on a trip. The lower psi gives me a better foot print for braking. If I have it set to high round town wopass I'm always spinning the wheels. It's a real pain.

Without the old limited slip in the back one wheel spins without even trying.
How it happened today was. I was waiting in the middle of the road for a gap, saw it and went for it. The right side started spinning, I laughed when i put my foot down harder then the left side grapped.....BANG!!! I was still laughing.

With the horse power and you have stronger axles you may find you bust ring and pinion's or drive shafts maybe you need to see if you can get some shear pin's in the drive shaft, strong enough to have fun but you bust the shear pin before damage, quick swap and you are away again.

Also when you go offroad you can change the pin to a stronger bolt and allow the tyres to spin and get all the power, must admit if I had your 40 I think I would need a removeable bump stop installed under the accelerator

I've gone with brand new 70 series hubs n axles. Should be all up and running tomorrow. They're a little bit stronger. Should last me a wee while. Once they brake I'll go for something stronger ex the states. But i need the cruiser asap.

I had my dirty ol 40 with 350, LSD(2 wheels all day everyday), no tramp bar and ran 20 psi on the road

never ever sheared those bolts that you and a few others have been shearing.

and I was hard on the truck on the road, just ask a few Taupo locals how high ya can get the front wheels off the ground when ya do a roll back and how sideways ya can get it whilst drifting round the corners.

Why do you fullas always break these bolts when it seems you are not even pushing it to the extreme.

I don't mind breaking stuff around town. It gives me an idea what might break in the mud where cell phone coverage ain't the greatest. It's fun finding out where the edge of the envelope is.

You have not seen the way Pete treats his 40 He will drive over the kerbs at the supermarket and all

He drives it pretty hard and the power in the LS1 through a manual gearbox into the rear axle and all on the road, I think he drives it this way to make the steering lighter he drives it hard (but safe) on the road and harder on the dirt like at sheffield where he gets it to fly

With more offroad driving I think the 40 would be a very capable 4wd in Petes hands and that is just time and if he enjoys offroading he may be a little easier on it on the road but Nah he is nice to the car not the 40

Edit: Sorry Pete I was trying to say you don't nanna around in the 40 on the road if you can get to 100KMH in say 300m and is all clear you get there, now your other commodore I have seen you with your shades on arm out the window and idleing away from the lights.

skid probably drove his on the edge of extreme more than I do.

So far I've blown one diff (sheared pinion n broke a crown wheel tooth)
Broken one UJ.
Sheared the axle bolts/dowls twice.

I don't think that's to bad in hindsight.

100 series cruza studs and dowels

These are both 10mm verses 8mm on earlier stuff.

I have heard that overtightening is the biggest killer of these studs too.
