Vibration when rolling to a stand still.

Something is not right...

When slowing to a stop in my BJ73 FRP cruiser I get a loud vibration sound (imagine a nuclear reactor powering down in a cheap movie ) . It only occurs a low speed like when I'm slowing for a stop light, but it goes away once I've stopped and doesn't occur at speed (50k or 100k no difference).

The hubs are set to Free, 4wd switch is not engaged and 4wd light is off. 4wd is working fine aswell.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Hub bearings?
Transfercase?
Auto?
Diff's?
Diff oil?
Prop shaft?

Any help to narrow it down would be appreciated.

my surf did the same thing.... turns out the uj joint on the drive shaft was about to sh!t itsself.

sounds like a bearing throw in
wheel bearings
Pinion bearing
Universals

The heater can make that noise too and the wife we need to know a little bit more to diagnose

I would start at the ground and work up, jack the rear diff xfer in nutral and spin the wheels and see if you can hear anything, next step the front, then transfer in and drive slowly try identify where it is coming from and work from there

from outside the truck figure out if it is from the front, the back or the middle left or right side, post back the results and we will be able to help

One from left field What type of tread pattern are you running on your tyres? I have the same issue when i have the muds on (mudzzlias). Just a thought

Was going to say the same, My Creepies whine as you slow down if they are low in pressure.

The work truck had new cooper STTs. When new the same thing... vibes while coming to a stop - 15kph to zero. When they wore down this became a lot less noticible. Try driving on a softer surface, like soft sand or short grass. if the same vibe happens, check drive train, if vibe is absent, your tread may be the culprit.

Very good point about the tyres, I didn't think about that. They are very noisy at 100kph so might be the cause of the problem. I bought the truck with these 33's so couldn't compare to having standard ones.

I'll give it a test on some grass or dirt and if its still happening I'll have to investigate the drivetrain, its probably due for new fluids anyway

manual or auto? try manual shifting down the gears in auto. if manual is foot on clutch when this happens. check uni joints on rear drive shaft. check if the front drive shaft is turning freely to make sure that the hubs and tranfer case are disengaged.
