There are now official warning signs up at the Manawatu River (entrance to the Ashhurst play area) warning of the cyano-bacteria (I think) algae MAY BE in the river or surrounding areas. Nothing been confirmed yet (in the immediate area but rivers elsewhere in the region are sick with it) but with water temperatures reaching higher and water levels getting lower, if there isn't now there most likely will when this trip is on. This algae can be fatal if ingested by dogs and can cause irritation to us bipeds. If anyone brings their dog, be aware that unless there is an amazing flood to clean the rivers out, there will most likely be crap in or near to the river that can really do some mean sick (or kill) your pooch.

I'm sure that Beer-Cruiser will be able to push the trailer up there.. or just hang a green bottle on a stick just out of reach and he will keep running for it... then hook the trailer up to the back of him and you won't need a road going 4wd...
You will be find towing the trailer behind your car..

Not really keen for the dams on Sunday as we need to travel back home, don't like getting home late, having to unpack then get fark all sleep before having to get up for work...
Dam on Saturday would be better for us travelers....

North Range Road can actually be done enroute to and/or from the dam trip.
Out from Ashhurst, thru gorge towards woodville, up hallblock Road, thru Nth Range, down pahiatua track (towards Palmerston Nth) and onwards to dam trip. Not a lot of exciting stuff up there anymore. A narrow winding road, a few good places to gaze directly up at a massive 3MW wind turbine, and few good views, a couple of climbs and decents and thats about it. Good cross section views from one side to the other and also through the wind farms.
