100 series cruza studs and dowels

These are both 10mm verses 8mm on earlier stuff.

I have heard that overtightening is the biggest killer of these studs too.

Cheers for the advice!
That does look like the shit alright. Damn. I'm not sure if the 70 series will be the same as the 100 series (I'd say not). Trouble is the new 70 axles n hubs are on there way and should be here ready for fitting tomorrow. Hmmm

I modified my 70 series parts to take the 100 series stuff, thought i might need it even though im pretty gentle on my truck.
You do need to keep a eye on the short axle side though, cause they are the ones that always seem to work loose on all the cruzas that ive looked at.
Its a bit of a fine line for them - too tight they snap off, too loose they snap off, just right - they last forever

Theres quite a bit of info about fixing them on outerlimits

Cheers

Turns out the 100 series axles are to long for the 40.
If n when the new ones break I'll think about drilling n taping bigger studs n dowels but I'll leave it stock for now.

nah you dont use the whole axle from a 100 series, just the studs and cones, then drill and tap your flange to take them

For a couple of friends on here this is old news. But I thought I'd share something that happened to me in my 40 just outside Chch with you.

The week before last I was responsible for rear ending a car at a give way intersection in my 40. I rear ended this car so badly it was written off. Right after hitting the car I went straight to the driver asking if he was alright. He was fine thank goodness. But man, his 95 Mitiz was farked  His rear wind screen ended up in the cab of my 40 (as I didn't have the roof on). I was surprised that the guy drove it home. I had my tandem trailer with two quads stropped on sitting on the back. So i wasn't going to stop fast. :(
At this intersection, expecting this guy was going to go and he stopped for no reason, on a give way sign. :? BUT I was in the wrong.
I was talking to my insurance company expecting to lose my no $300 no claims. But when he asked me what was the damage to my truck? I said, nothing. Not even a scratch. He said, "oh, well this claim will cost you nothing". I said, SWEET!!

I wish I had of taken pictures.
My hat's off to "Corey Taylor" at "FabTech" who made the bull bar up.

She's always in the truck with me. As soon as she hears the keys she's at the front door ready to go for a ride. :D

I know what its like - I almost need ear muffs to get from the key rack to the vehicle. Interesting tho, she demands a ride in the cruiser or my Morris but knows there is little hope of rides in the other family members' or work vehicles.

And she knows when I'm heading down to the river, as soon as I hit the shingle she's all over the dash and barking. Normally she jumps out and runs along side.

my mate made the mistake of leaving his young staffy in the car for a wee while. Came back and everything had been chewed. Including the wires under the dash of the 56 Chev.

Anyone read the NZ 4X4 Action mag?
A while ago John Reid who works for the mag was at Rick's workshop passing through. He asked me if wanted to put my truck in the mag. I thought, what the hell.
So I think it's in May's issue.
I'll be signing copies.
John might put one maybe two pix in with a brief comment attached. :D

Cheers wopass.
To be honest I'm not expecting much. I sent him a few hi-res pix on his request but that was about it. I'll be laughing if I ever see it in a mag.

skid is in form and has a point.

I guess wot made me say yes to a picture in the mag was. A month or so ago the mag had a small picture (like I'm hoping) of a red big horn with a LS1 re-power boasting how it was a work of ark by the people who installed it.

I've heard of this machine. Saw it at Kevin Geary's when it had problems.
Thing is. The big horn is "only" a tow machine. It's not built for offroad.
At least mine has seen some mud.

I'm not holding my breath. But I'll be laughing my ass off if I ever see my 40 in a mag.

In other news.
I'll be starting a new build thread in the Projects/Mod's area in the next month.

My brother and I are going to build a bash round FJ40 out of his spare one in his back paddock. The spare is a good runner. It's running a 4.2L 2F motor on LPG. It's pretty straight, but not for long.

Both of us have used our 40's off road and are sick of fixing em. So it's time to make a off road machine to really bash around in.

Gunna get the use of a pipe bender to help make up a cage. We'll be thrashing my plasma cutter and mig welder over the next few months.

So watch this space.

Can't wait to start on it.
I just have to wait for my brother to finish his other project first.

It's confirmed that my truck will be in the "NZ 4X4 Action" mag next month.
