98 terrano boost
well i have a 98 nissan terrano running the QD32 engine 3.2 turbo diesel, i have just brought a boost gauge and i am looking at installing it the truck what i would like to know, is under the bonnet there seam to be four vacume/turbo lines close together by the drivers side firewall, which one of these lines would be the best to hook up my boost gauge to. or is there a "better/correct place" to do this.
thanks guys

Re: 98 terrano boost
usually the easiest place is to T the boost sensor line. if its got one may be the thing, depending on if its factory turbo or not.
Re: 98 terrano boost
yeah it factory turbo system, i rung nissan and asked same thing, they say that i could tee into one of the four vacume lines mentioned as they are emission controls lines.
so mite be the thing to go for.

i don't know a lot on the QD32 but usually there is no boost in any vac lines used for emmision purposes. nissan comments are a little odd sounding to me.
any chance of pics? would love a pic of a factory turbo QD32 for the navara forums.
i would trace where those lines go to, or even easier see what lines come off the inlet manifold and intake tubing.
Re: 98 terrano boost
here are a couple of pics

and these are the lines i was talking about.

one line goes to each of the caniser things beside the intake hose across top of engine and one goes down the right side of engine
mist admit i do like this powerhouse, mite be good replacement for pajero one day,if i could find one at right price that is.

Ok, here goes from a non teckie, but I do know where to tap in for the boost gauge.
See the centre bottom of the page, there is a metal cylindrical unit with a shaft just above the black hose.
This unit has a small hose coming out of it and going down, on the left as viewed in the pic.
Tap into this hose. This is where I have seen a mechanic mate do his on his Safari and I have been told to do the same on my '95 too.
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

try not to tap into that. first of all the boost pressure will be different and not the same as whats going into the motor, especially as this has an intercooler.
have a look on the end tanks of the intercooler and see if there is a boost sensor mounted on it. if so you will have to get a pipe welded to the intake tubes for a boost gauge to connect to.
that will all be vacuum lines to operate the EGR, EGR butterfly and motor off butterfly in the intake. no boost pressure there. (so Nissan was full of it as per normal !) on second thoughts just make sure that green label just under those solenoids is not a boost sensor.one line goes to each of the canister things beside the intake hose across top of engine and one goes down the right side of engine
only other thing some Nissan's have is the breather has a valve on top which sometimes has a boost connection on it (so it opens more when boost is on). can't quite see the back of it in the photos.
thanks for the pics, much appreciated

It'll still work fine, you just might read 1 psi or so higher than the engine is actually getting. Since most people just use a boost gauge as an indication of what's happening, it's not a problem.
Re: 98 terrano boost
ok well the intercooler is in the front bumper, had a look and couldnt really see any sensor type thing there.had i look at the pajero setup(didnt plumb thisonewas already fitted when go it and that one is hooked up to a similar canister on the exhaust side of engine above turbo.
and the green label says that it is a relay ass then with lots of numbers.

12 sounds roughly right. where did you tap the guage into?
Re: 98 terrano boost
i taped into the hose (last pic) running verticaly down off that oval canister thing.

Re: 98 terrano boost
you just have to remember that actual boost into the motor will be slightly less.pajeroboy wrote:i taped into the hose (last pic) running verticaly down off that oval canister thing.
