Thomos Loop

Post by mudlva »

well kricky im crying in my beer now   went up to thomos today (easy side) to have a bit of a play, god its a bloody motorway up there with duel lines and center barriers the whole bloody lot. anyway back to the story, the purpose was to do the Te Aroha side loop track that drops off the side down to the farmers boundry and back up to the track, well....
... some bunch of "so and so's" have clear felled some trees right throu the track and pushed a heap of large branches and logs etc creating a decent barrier. looks like they used a skidder or similar as i couldn't see any digger track marks.
i havnt been up to thomos for a good 18 months and was realy looking forward to see how the loop track has stayed in shape because it was fun the last few times that i was there.

if anybody knows more about this i would love to hear how and why contractors would stuff up a good track.

i didnt have a camara but i think noby could ever complain about 4x4s cutting up tracks and roads etc when all you have to do is have a look at the ammount of vandilism that these people have made. seriously seriously not happy

'cause theyre logging out and its apparently privately leased property. Last time they tried to refuse access by way of locking the gates they got lifted off the hinges. This time they felled the trees instead, probably to get some kind of a point across. I tried to pop down to the right at one point where there seemed to be a nice big cleared area, but was blocked off by deadfall stuff, and rightly so. Who would be responsible for a 4x4 coming to grief and someone being harmed in a privately leased piece of land where work was being undertaken? They're just looking after their rear ends, and I cant blame them for that.

Word is that once the logging is complete, it will be cleared again.

:( :( :cry:Well I went for another look today to see if there was any inprovement from last year. The top enterance is stuffed due to logging opperations. No sign of any work happening now so, so much for the crew cleaning the place up.

The lower enterance is stuffed due to at least 8plus very large trees laying across the track, and that is only what we could see by standing on the first log. I was running out of enthousasism by this stage so we decided to leave it at that.

So if anybody cares at the moment the loop track is well closed and will most likely stay that way

no improvement from zero accessability.... no.

Theres still machinery in there apparently, so they are obviously still working it.

Eyes left <<<--- not a stock standard truck
That happened about 2/3rds the way down the other side

A tread on Thompsons

That said I would love to do the track as a winch wally for someone else

I found a bigger one ...
