These are fine but some do transfer noise to the cab and resonate.
Apart from that they can be leant on without splitting
I havent bothered for stainless tho Mild steel is far easier to bend and replace sections as for a template no need, the hardest part is the mounting tabs to the pannel and windscreen pillar.

I made mine up from 3" aluminium - banged a few trees, seems solid as. Mine enters the engine bay just past the aerial (Petrol so don't have the pre-cleaner). i'll get some photos over the weekend if you like. I got it bent up in ChCh, can probably find the bend directions I faxed them if I'm lucky...
Expensive option tho - worked out about the same price as a plastic Safari one - next time I'd go with mild steel. I was worried about weight, but given it's a LWB Patrol, that seems rather silly in hindsight.

jst single pack primer and matt black(easy to touch up) no rivnuts either
just one self tapping 10mm screw on the pillar with some sealer so it dont leak and nuts and bolts on the guards....just dont over engineer anything, the less you have to do the better!!
I just cut and welded by eye no measuring and turned out pretty good...

I know this is dragging a post up from the dead.... but meh
I went to ulrich aluminum in Hamilton and they had sold out of 3" aluminum pipe
and wanted $50 per bend- so i was forced to look at other options. I know the GQ is a tank already but i do not see the point in using heavy mild steel or stainless for something completely non structual.
Trademe wins. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =201085821
$25 a bend and i can do my GQ with just one straight, one 180 and one 45 degree bend. I have a box of random silicone couplers and hose clamps kicking around so will join the whole lot together with those.
Now i just have to find one of those clear plastic pre-cleaners for the end of the snorkel.. Does anyone in Nz sell them?

I see the point in mild, price.
3 inch 90 degree bends 17 dollars pretty hard to beat and im pretty sure my boots weigh more that my mild steel 3 inch snorkel that cost all up less than 50 dollars.
Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level then beat you with experiance!
