Norwest Ohv Club inc Winch Challenge 2009

Post by diffsx2 »

Mark it down in your diaries boys n girls, the weekend of the 13th – 15th march is the date of the first major winch challenge for 2009.
The Norwest OHV Winch Challenge 2009 is shaping up to be a cracker, sanctioned by 4x4 Challenges NZ as round one of the 09 north island series, this event will be set entirely on one location with both classes racing the same weekend. Challenge class kicks off on the Friday afternoon and if 2008 is anything to go by you had better come prepared to race hard from the first countdown! Night stages are planned for the Friday with a full days racing on Saturday and a half day Sunday.
The fast growing Club Class are also racing from the Saturday with night stages Saturday night and a half day on Sunday also. With the tracks set to enable your average club truck to compete and still be able to drive home at the end of the weekend, the club class is proving to be very popular.
Both classes will enjoy a bbq prize giving Sunday. Camping is available on site with toilets and showers provided.
The Norwest OHV clubs winch challenge committee are committed to growing the sport within NZ, one way of doing this is having the event sanctioned by 4x4 Challenges and working together towards a truly national competition within the next two years, because of this, challenge class competitors are required to be a member of 4x4 challenges NZ to be licensed to drive in this event, logbooks are not required but are encouraged for 2009 and will be compulsory for 2010, if you do not have a current logbook and current wof, your wof will be required to be less than 28 days old. Membership and logbook information along with the rules are available on the 4x4 challenges website: http://www.4x4challenges.org.nz
For the Club Class both driver/co driver must be affiliated to NZ4WDA
the driver must hold a current drivers licence (if the co driver doesn’t hold a licence they can’t drive) no exceptions!
any current challenge class teams wanting to enter will be dealt with on a case by case basis
No trucks that have competed in challenge class in the last 18 months will be allowed
wire rope is allowed (will be checked for condition)
hard top trucks will not require a roll cage, but one is recommended
all soft top must have a min of 4 point plus either a steel or ali top fitted as per 4x4 challenge rules
you will Not need a WOF or Reg
you will not require a ground anchor
"Note" a Min of a 4 point roll cage (club class) will be required for 2010 (that gives you over a year to sort it)
Entry forms are available on http://www.norwestohv.co.nz and will be limited to the 1st 20 entries for each class.
For further information e-mail Rob at chis.build@xtra.co.nz.

For those that want to get logbooks, for a short time your $20 join fee will include your logbook. Normally there is a $20 logbook fee but we are waiving that for new members at present. This is for a limited time only!

The advantage of a logbook is that under the new rule, this will mean you only need the normal 2 WOF per year as opposed to a new one for each comp. So you $26 investment will save you a lot of time and money and will also make the event organisers job much much easier. (and this is a key to getting more events!!)

In regards to submitting the information for the log book, can it all be e-mailed in or does it need to have the forms sent in by snail mail?

Cheers

You can email and for the photo's this would be easier (about 1mb is ideal) but getting signatures may be easier to snail mail.

hello all, just an update on the norwest event,
At present we have not met our minimum number of entry's to make the event go ahead, we will be making the call either way on the 18th of Feb.. this is the last day available to us as we will need to cancel or confirm all the support equipment and plant hire that week. all entry's will need to be in by 5.00pm on that day.if we have not met the minimum number of entrys by then we may have to cancel! if in the unfortunate event that we have to cancel, all entry fees will be returned promptly.
at the present time we are still preparing for the event to run and have set a good number of challenging tracks! at the moment the farm is very dry and hard, so unless we get a good dump of rain a couple of weeks out, you will have to take that into consideration with truck set-up and driving style!
if you have any issues with your trucks regarding re-certification for minor mods etc or other truck issues preventing you from entering, or will not have the entry fee available until the week of the event please let us know sooner rather than later, we know moneys tight this year and as organizers there are avenues available to us to be able to get you to the start line.
I am of the understanding that the whangarei event has been pushed back another month so if that has been a deterrent not to come to the Norwest event then it now need not be!!
the entry form is on-line at www.norwestohv.co.nz , please let any other potential competitors know about the closing date.

The way I read it, the only requirements of a spare tyre is that it should be the same size as your other 4 tyres

Are you talking just the diameter of the tyre? or diameter and the width?

Why should it matter what spare ur running as long as its smaller than 36.5 inches high and 13.5 wide?

This rule was put in place as in the Challenge series there was quite often transit stages on public roads ,in comps gone by these have been from Auck to Stadia ,its all to do with saftey and having the same size tyres in case of a flat tyre etc as far as im aware they are mainly concerned with the diameter being the same size as those running on the truck ,regarding width as long as it met the rules i would think you would be fine ,i know of at least 3 trucks that are running 35x11.5 15 tyres and have a 35x10.5x15 spare ..Steve

PICK ME pick me. I have a 35 x 16 x 10.5 SIMEX tyres and did not have enough money for 5th one so found a cheap worn kumo 35 x 15 x 12.5 spare and have that on the back. This ment i could put more petrol in the old truck and other parts.

So what was the story in the end Rob?

Is the event a runner? How many entrants are you upto?

This latest dose if wet weather has hopefully helped.

Cheers

hi guys, as monstr has said the comp is all go. 4x4 tv are booked to film the event and the recient wet weather is filling up those great bogs that the extreme 4x4 park and our track setters love for you to hate! we have 7 confirmed entrys with another three at least that are a bit slow on it and need a kick up the arse to get their entrys in!!!
dont forget that klem has offered $100 of the entry fee for any club class guys to step up and have a play in comp class.
there is plenty of room for more entrys so give me a call on 0274809361 to book your place in this great event.

cheers rob

your competitor packs will be e-mailed to you shortly i am just waiting on the complete list of e-mail addresses, what i can tell you is, no you can not set up thursday night as the park is not ours untill friday, you are welcome to set up camp anytime after 9am as you will need to be directed as where you can and can not camp and no-one is on site at the camping area untill after that time. scrutineering time and race start time will be in your competitor packs. i would rather you e-mailed or phoned me direct if you require further infomation, this will ensure you have the correct infomation for the challenge class racing.

while checking the stages ,one of them that i wasnt happy with in particular ,ended up rolling one and a half times ended up on its side wedged into a tree ,had to winch the bloody thing about 10 mtrs on its side to clear the trees before getting it back on its wheels ,damage wasnt to bad really a few dents busted gearbox and engine mounts ,all i can say is thank god for a exo roll cage and a back up elec winch as my main one is pto ,and in case you competitors are a bit worried i have pulled the stage and found another :)

Nah not to bad Mark ,The benefit of a good roll cage ,all the pillars and glass stayed intact i just replaced the mounts and its mobile again ,we were up the park today very wet and the bogs are nice and full what we need now is a day or two of fine weather leading up to the comp ,had a look at the challenge tracks and Kevin and Co have set some really awsome stages ,makes me wish i was competing ,still at least i get the chance to put my truck through some of them without a clock running ..steve
