Viscous hub mounting problems

Post by DaveM »

I've got a new water pump for the GQ, but I have found the screws that hold the belt pully and viscous hub on are no good.
Thought the new pump would come with them, but no. Any idea where I can get these? They have opposite thread on each end (if you know what I mean) so one end screws into the waterpump, the other end is nutted to hold the hub/pulley.

Can't find them anywhere, engineering shops have said they can't get them, Nissan Dealers are idiots and can't track them down either

Go to ya local "Pic a part" any make or model that has the same diameter ...
Take them off with a pair of visegrips on the untreaded portion or 2 nuts locked together.

Or go to your local engineering supply and get some tread stock cut it to length and away you go ...
If you go this way grab some Loctite for the end that you put into the pump flange.
This will stop the stud turning when you are doing up the nut on the fan.
There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.

Just pull the ones off your old water pump. I struck the same problem when my waterpump let go also. Just use 2 nuts tightened together on the studs to remove them from the old pump.

If you don't have any luck, I'll whip the ones off a dead donk I've got here and send em down.

Its the ones on the old pump that have stripped, and the new pumps don't include them, they must come with the viscous hub but mines ok, and I can't justify buying a new hub for the sake of 4 screws
