Auto gearbox issue- FLASHING POWER LIGHT OF DOOM

Post by flyingbrick »

This kinda put me in a bad mood thismorning :(

It all started when I got in and turned the key for the glow plug to do its glowing. After a few seconds the AT's POWER lamp started flashing. I pressed the gear selectors power button and the lamp went out- and I left home for work without thinking much more about it.

It sees to drive fine usually- maybe the gear changes are a wee bit harsher than usual but when the power button is depressed It'll not change down through the gears as normal until you reach a certain rpm. EG. you can apply very light throttle and take it from low rpm out to 3500rpm when it will suddenly snap down into the next gear. When this happens it changes gears much faster and harder than normal too- nearly like the line pressures have been raised...it feels kinda good  but cant be good for it so have kept power mode off.

And it did this the whole way to work and then when I got closer to home i clicked power on and it seemed to function as normal.

It rained last night.. wonder if its electrical and caused by the moisture......? anyone got any ideas? I'm hoping its not serious

The normal poblem is fault code 3 which is the TPS. They have a habit of wearing out so buy a new one not second hand if that is the problem. Also it is really common for it to be a broken wire as opposed to an actually TPS problem but that is almost impossible to find.
This is the biggest problem with GQ autos.

Considered the manual idea- but nah.

am gonna sort this issue and then manually control the trans without the factory ecu similar to how darinz has done.

Quite sure its TPS related - seems that the line pressure is too high all the time- making it harsh at low load.

Will have to find out where the wires/tps sensor are and check them all- I do recall seeing a few loose wires in the pump area actually. I was looking at them and thinking wtf.

Its just too damn hot here tonight. I've just sat down and im not standing up again for as long as i have to.
