Oil temp range?

Post by rotordogg »

As a guide, what temprature range should the oil be in for a diesil engine??
And what would be a "time to turn off" temp??
I'm running a 2Litre Toyota diesil engine, but figre temp range's should be similar for all diesil's.

Oil temperature should be about the same as head water temperature . Around the 90 C mark .

If it is too cold the engine builds up sludge and it cause wear because of drag.

If too hot goes thin and oil pressure drops.

To test oil temperature ,you will need to do 10-20 ks to reach the operating temperature. That is why short runs are so bad for an engine.
The 2L motor should have an internal water oil cooler so shouldn't be a problem if the engine water temperature is normal.
