my stupid lux

Post by vvega »

hey guys well im wayne
i work for a engineering company and im im obsessed with modding anything
a year ago i bought a mazda marvie ...after driving it for a bit i decided it needed a bit more go
so in went a 1uz
after i managed to kill the mazda auto i put in a 1uz with a surf transfer case on the back of it
just milled the housing etc put the uz sensors in the transfer .. so it would work with the uz factory computer

anyways
originally i wanted to build a Bigfoot... unfortunately i don't have a spare 200 k so once i got back to reality i realised that the marvie was a peace of shit
so i chopped it up and sold it on trademe :D

and bought a SWB lux for a cheap price
and so it started

i got a u to w bell off brendon @ a1 turbo's
made a flywheel on the cnc used 4130 and just copied a 3s fly ... and just made it heavier
started on the prep required to make it all happen
at the same time i drew up some extended shackles and gave them to a mate to get cut out
popped down to see our mate at P&H suspention in hams and got a full bush kit and new longer travel shocks

ive lifted the body 75mm....rather than lift the chassis as well i though it woudl be better to keep my center of gravity lower and a 75mm lift would allow me to push the uz futher back over the front axel
so grabbed some 60mm uhumpe off the shelf and bored some 12mm holes though (originals were m10 bolts) though because thee was plenty of room to move id go up a size...could have gone to m14 but the crush tubes would have got a little thin (made slightly bigger ones of them as well)
new bolts nylocks etc and put it all back togiether

steering needed a 25mm spacer and some extended pins .. so spun them up and fitted it all
still not happy with the spacer ...gunna talk to the cert man on what he wants to just extend the shaft , id be happier with that
bought some 15x 10 rims off marc down in westport (dam nice guy ) and got some rubber for them
i looked about for tyres and chose the scorpian mud's 33 x 12.5 x 15's....they seam very small compared to what you guys are running but hey...ive never driven off road in a truck so i wont notice :D
and they got fitted tonight

this weekend i plan to put the uz in ...i have to trip to TGA tomorrow to pic up a alloy rad i grabbed of trademe /ex sprintcar jobbie and mod that to fit
useing a late 2j crown fuel tank (100 liters) and pump

ayways enough of the babble
here are some pics .. no particular order
Image
picture green moldy pain and bald steel wheels and thats how i got it
gave it a cut and chucked on some spare wheels and it sorta looked less shit

Image
half a lift
Image
all of a lift
Image
rusty body crush tube
Image bolt i made the new steerring pins from .. just so i have evidence of material used
extened pins and stock pin
Image
again
Image
pile of bits
Image
bit of 65 mm stock
Image
then there were 6

cnc making my fly
Image
tyres on rims yay

so here is the current job
Image

love this piccy was tempted to reverse up on flatmates car:D
Image
oh look at that bit on the tray ... could it be some new bracing :D

Image

you can see where i started to weld in new patches and then realised... this is fucken stupid.. just fix it
the corner sectons are from a ms65 and just grafted them in there

Image

#### i wish i could drive it like that
Image

rust has rotted out the roof so badly that the supporting ribs and support structure is fucked as well
this is looking down
Image

thats not the roof skin ... thats the a pillar reinforcoing
Image

and this is look up at the piccy before last
Image

arh well least teh first guard is primed ready to get some white stuff on it
bare metaled every panel then etched both sides then 2 pac primer/filler both sides... will flick color on both sides as well
IMO the better the seal coat the longer it will last

Image
and there is a new roof skin ... over night parts from japan ... #### i feel JDM as #### now

using a night parts/a1 turbo's bell u to w
g52 gearbox 9 1/2 clutch out of a mr2 turbo
and a link g4 storm ecu

considering changing to the r series bos... but they kill transfer boxes so it kinda a mute point
may also upgrade to a 10" clutch

im about to make a run of 10" ones but i do have 1 9 1/2 left but its a molly one so its far from cheap @ about 500 bucks

lol
ow nathan dont be so emotional

rebuilt the front axels today
all bearings seals etc were replaces and man what a differance
one size the needles were flat and had chunks missin as well as a cadge that had half rusted off
and the kingpin bearings .. one looked like corogated iron rather than a nice smooth surface... seriously no exageration

so no more clicking .. and it drives reallly nice :d
massive inprovement
next step ... onto pinion angles brakes and cert :D

Why do you have to correct the pinion angles? getting vibration? or just as a preventative measure?
