I'm also thinking the the low profile Coopers would be a better pick for the conditions, aye?

Sadam_Husain wrote:New Updated Trip Details
Theres been a bit of behind the scenes working out going on the past couple of weeks, The orongorongo club had already booked out this date with the Orongorongo Station for a social overnighter around the coast and have arranged the use of barneys whare for the saturday night. The Orongorongo club is my bach owners group that deals with all our DoC matters concerning our baches and also negociates our access accross the Orongorongo Station to access our baches by vehicle. So theres been a bit of discussion with the committee people to see if this can become a combined trip with the Orongo Club and ORE (or kiwi4x4) and after some initial concerns of "what sort of beer the ORE guys drink?" and "do they drink enought beer" and "do they bring their own ice to keep the beer cold" and "do they bring enough emergency beer" its now a combined trip
So the details are
Kiwi4x4 & Orongorongo Club Wainui Coast Trip
Vistors welcome, but will need to pay the day fee ($5) if not a NZFWDA Member
Date:
Saturday 28th Feb to Sunday 1st March (those not staying can be let back out the gate Saturday afternoon)
Trip leaders
Marty and Nigel
Meeting Place:
Wainui Coast Road, The padock on the lefthand side of the road just before you drive through the pass onto the coast (where you'll see all the other vehicles parked)
Meeting Time:
9.00am Saturday
Cost:
Dunno yet TBA
Trip Grade:
Shiny with some play areas on the coast
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
tow hooks
first aid kit
fire extinguisher
rated recovery stop
Spade
As it is a Shiny trip please contact myself or Nigel if you don't have all the listed equipment
Trip Route:
From the Coast road up onto the airstrip ridge and down the old track down to the River then up to the old radar station or gun emplacements or whatever they are called up on the end of the main ridge behind the old station homestead then back down and around the coast and around to Barneys whare. From here its either play time on/around the coast or cold BYO refreshments at the hut![]()
All those staying will need their own tenting as Barneys only sleeps a small number and it usually gets used to shove all the kids into to go to sleep, the hut has a flush toilet but I dunno what the water supplys like as I havent used it for 2-3 years, would pay to take some drinking water with you. I'm pretty sure theres still a big BBQ plate and some outside furniture, tables etc outside the hut for cooking and eatting and theres plenty of driftwood on the beach that can be collected on a few utes to keep the fire going. Theres plenty of diving on the coast so dont forget your wetsuits so we can have paua on the BBQ
Its a family and kid friendly weekend and dont forget the ice to keep your refreshments and stuff cold and the beer will stay safely tucked away in your chilly bins untill the trucks are parked up.
Edit 4/2/2009, now confirmed as a Kiwi4x4 trip

Is it the one where ya drive along the Petone foreshore....or is there someone/somewhere we can meet up first at an easier location we can follow??? We would be coming down from Wangavegas. Am I better to run my 2/3 worn mudders, or fit my new tyres? Going by a previous tyre query I am leaning towards the worn ones.
Cheers guys.
