Come to think of it, was the truck a 4 speed? They may have a different bellhousing pattern to the w and g box's. some one with more hilux knowledge will know for sure.

yes it is 4 speed would be possible my bell housing is the same then?
i want to get it going with what ive got, but with a five speed box and
get everything sorted and when finances allow repower with something else
a 1kz or lexus is definitly out at the moment

It possibly could be the same mounting pattern but i cant be sure as have never played with a 4 speed.
If you can find a 5 speed from a 22r truck with bellhousing, then it will fit but they are not that common.
May be easier to get that bell of t/m and put the r series gearbox in.

started stripping the hilux down today, it was easier than i thought it would be,
maybe putting it back together will be interesting

this is why im after a g/box and transfer case
i dont think uj's are ment to look like this

and this is what it looks like at the momment

i just have to take the cab off and strip the chassis for sand blasting and painting (may get it acid dipped)
then reassemble.
body and paint work will have to wait till the surf sells
