Pajero 2.5 SWB 1992

Post by ubiquenz »

Hi all, just after some advice from those who know...

What is the reliability of the Pajero 2.5 diesel engines. Looking at a 2nd hand vehicle through a dealer at the moment, body looks good, but not too sure about the power weight ratio (or its overall reliability, including spare parts). It is a soft top variant, so thought that the smaller engine would be offset by the lighter body???

Further, what is the off road capability of the Pajeros? Not looking for heavy duty 4WD, but definately river fording etc for shooting.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

I am no diesel mechanic, but I would tend to steer clear of the 2.5l

Look for a 2.8 Turbo Diesel, allot more reliable, in fact the motor the 4M40 is the same motor they use in the current model Tritons.
There is no belts in the 2.8, something that lets go quite a bit in the 2.5
The gearbox (in autos) is not as strong as the box with the 2.8 either.

I have the 2.8TD Pajero (SWB) and it goes damn good.
They are possibly one of the most underated 4wds out there.
For medium 4wding they are excellent.
But they are good both on and off road, something which is difficult to get.
Look in the photo albums for my Pajero

Cheers Zukin for taking the time to reply. I have a friend with the 2.8 version and he rates it quite highly as well!!! Have seen it in action and thats what spawned me looking for one...though do they come with the soft top option?

Once again thanks for your time...
