V8 Experts

Post by NJV6 »

Hey,

I have got a 9.35 CR 3.5 V8 out of a SD1 for my project. It has twin SU carbs and engine number 11A which all adds up.

Are there any SD1 or Rover V8 guru's on here?

Now, there is a bit of wiring which I am at a loss. There looks like a vacuum canister at the front right of the engine which is connected to the throttle. May this have been some sort of cruise control?

There is also a round plug at the front of the motor down near the crank pully which has a number of wires including what looks like an early version of a crank angle sensor. Could this all be related to the cruise control or am I on the wrong track? This plug is something that you would plug a diagnostic thingie into.

Here are the pics with both circled.

I will keep this thread going if I get answers there will be a few more questions to come.

if the canister is hooked up with a cable to throttle linkages then you are correct, as for the round plug, i think you may be right , as you are running carbs and dizzy then there is no need for a crank pick up.
